It has been a dramatic comeback for Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League, BPL. They lost three of their first three matches in this tournament. But Comilla made a fantastic turnaround and conquered the title for the fourth time. Comilla Victorians are now the champion of the BPL 2023, defeating Sylhet Strikers by seven wickets.

As it happened

Imrul Kayes, the captain of the Comilla Victorians, won the toss and decided to bowl first in the final. So, Sylhet Strikers started their batting innings with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy. They had a quick start at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, but Towhid Hridoy couldn't stay long on the pitch. Towhid Hridoy was one of the best batsmen in this tournament before he got injured in the middle of the BPL. Unfortunately, he was not in his best form after coming back from the injury. Today he departed the pitch without scoring any runs. Mashrafee Mortaza also left the pitch without much contribution. But opener Najmul Hossain remained very determined today. He made a notable partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim. Both batters were heading the team toward a big score. Together they added 79 runs on the scoreboard. However, English bowler Moeen Ali broke their partnership as he picked up Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 13th over. Shanto scored 64 runs before leaving the pitch. On the other side, Mushfiqur Rahim kept scoring runs for the team. He scored an unbeaten 74 runs with three sixes and five fours. Relying on these two scores, Sylhet Strikers ended their innings with 175 runs. Chasing the target, Comilla Victorians lost two wickets in the powerplay. Sunil Narine and captain Imrul had to go back to the pavilion early. But opener Liton Kumar Das showed his class today against the Strikers. He was very aggressive on the pitch. With Johnson Charles, Liton Kumar Das added 70 runs on the scoreboard. Although Liton departed the pitch after getting a half-century, Johnson Charles remained not out for Comilla Victorians. His unbeaten 79 off 52 secured the victory for the Victorians. Therefore, Comilla chased the target with four balls in hand and lifted the trophy.
