After securing the T20 series, Bangladesh have started the two-match Test series against Ireland with a comfortable victory. The test match of the series started on April 4, and after playing for four days, Bangladesh secured the game by seven wickets.
Toss: Andrew Balbirne, the Test skipper of Ireland, won the toss and decided to bat first at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.
1st innings of Ireland
Winning the toss, Ireland started their batting innings with James McCollum and Murray Commins. But the two openers failed to get a good start for the Irish. Ireland lost their first wicket in the 5th over as Murray Commins departed the crease after scoring five runs.
After that, Andrew Balbirnie came into the pitch and tried to handle the situation with James McCollum. Unfortunately, both batters failed to build a long partnership. The two had returned to the pavilion within 50 runs. However, Harry Tector and Curtis Campher played a vital role in the middle order. Hector scored 50 and Campher scored 34 runs before leaving the crease. Bangladeshi spinner Taijul Islam, then, destroyed the Irish batting lineup, taking five wickets. As a result, Ireland became all out in 214 runs.
1st innings of Bangladesh
Bangladesh also failed to get a good start as Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Shanto lost their wickets early. Although Tamim scored 21, Najmul Shanto had gone duck in the first innings. Mominul Haque, the following batter, also lost his wicket early. But Mushfiq and Shakib were brilliant against the Irish bowlers. Mushfiq got a century, but Shakib lost his wicket after scoring 87 runs. Relying on their bats, Bangladesh ended their first innings with 369 runs and took a lead of 155 runs.
2nd innings of Ireland
Like the first innings, Ireland’s top order also failed to get decent scores. Taijul Islam was as good as he was in the 1st innings. He picked up four wickets in the 2nd innings of Ireland.
But Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, and Andy McBrine tried hard to fight against Bangladesh. Tector and McBrine got half-centuries, while Lorcan Tucker smashed a century to help Ireland take the lead of 137 runs.
2nd innings of Bangladesh
Bangladesh needed only 138 runs to win the match with two days in hand. However, Bangladesh took only one day to chase the target, losing three wickets. Like the first innings, Mushfiq smashed another fifty for Bangladesh. He remained not out in 51 runs. As a result, Bangladesh won the first test by seven wickets.
