No.4 Has Been An Issue
Team India has been doing fantastic in all Cricket formats yet failed to win the ODI World Cup since 2011. But as the host, the expectations are high for India to win the world cup this year. It won’t be an easy task for them. Captain Rohit Sharma also admitted that. He expressed the team’s weakness and demands a quick solution. Over the past years, India have been struggling for their No.4 position. Captain Rohit Sharma said, "After Yuvi [Yuvraj Singh], nobody has come and settled themselves in.” However, Shreyash Iyer has had some good innings in that position, but injury ruled him out. Rohit Sharma told, “Look, No. 4 has been an issue for us for a long time. For a long period of time, Shreyas (Iyer) has actually batted at No. 4, and he has done well — his numbers are really good.” “Unfortunately, injuries have given him a bit of trouble; he has been out for a while and that is honestly what has happened in the last 4-5 years. A lot of these guys have got injured and you will always see a new guy coming and playing there,” Rohit Sharma admitted "The percentage of injuries that have happened in the last 4-5 years, it is massive. When the players get injured or are not available, you try doing different things with different players — that is what I have to say about No. 4,” he saidRohit Sharma on Iyer and KL Rahul
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have been two of the best performers for India in the No.4 position. But the two players have been out of the squad due to injuries. Rohit Sharma has commented on these two players. The captain said, "Shreyas and KL are coming off not playing anything for four months, big injuries, surgeries rather. Both had surgeries. I know, I had to undergo surgery once and how it feels afterwards, it is quite tough. We have to see, how they respond, what they do." Before the World Cup, India will participate in the Asia Cup, starting on August 30. However, India will start their journey in the Asia Cup on September 2 against their arch-rival Pakistan.Related reading
