World champions Argentina can’t stop winning trophies. Since winning the Copa America 2021, the Albeceleste have won every possible title under Lionel Scaloni. The Scaloni boys once again lifted the Copa America trophy as they defeated Colombia in the final.

Argentina becomes the first team in this competition to win back-to-back Copa America titles. Additionally, they have won fourth successive titles in just three years. Since Lionel Scaloni took charge of this team five years ago, Argentina have lost only two matches. That means Argentina won more trophies than they have lost under Lionel Scaloni.

However, Colombia has been in a flying form for the last few years. They had gone 28 games unbeaten until they met Argentina in the Copa America final. Colombia came into the tournament as one of the favorites. They also have scored more goals than any other team. But their unbeaten streak finally ended as Argentina beat them in the extra time.

Colombia showed their maximum physical strength against Argentina in the final. Even they had more possession and more attempts than Argentina. But the Argentine defense built with Lisandro Martinez and Christian Romero was brilliant. Their rock-solid attitude did not allow Colombian players to score the goals.

But Argentina suffered a lot throughout the match. Captain Lionel Messi had to take off the pitch after picking up an injury. It seemed the injury was serious as he left the crease crying repeatedly, which we never saw before. However, the depth of his injury is yet to be known as he needs to go through a medical checkup.

However, the Albeceleste did not give up after losing their captain. They showed a winning mentality and fought till the end. It was Lautaro Martinez who came off the bench just before the full-time whistle and scored the most awaited goal for the Albeceleste. Lautaro Martinez scored in the 112th minute to secure Argentina’s second successive Copa America title at Hard Rock Stadium. Argentina are now the most Copa America winner with 16 titles, surpassing Uruguay’s 15 titles.

Di Maria Retires

This has been a very special final for Di Maria. Before the final, Angel Di Maria confirmed it would be his last match in Argentina’s shirt. But the team has given him the best possible farewell by winning the trophy.

“I am eternally grateful to this generation that gave everything and made me achieve what I wanted so much, said Di Maria after winning the final. He added,It was written and it was like this . I dreamed of all this and I told the boys about it. I have so many beautiful feelings in my body.”
