Chelsea made a dramatic comeback last night when they welcomed Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. Despite conceding two goals in 10 minutes, the Blues were able to make a fantastic comeback to secure all three points. Star boy Cole Palmer stole the show as he scored two goals in this game and helped Chelsea get second place in the league table.

Match Report

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca set up the team formation with 4-2-3-1, while Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou played his team in a classic 4-3-3 formation.

The start was brilliant for the away side as they took the lead in just five minutes. It was Dominic Solanke who drew the first blood in the 5th minute, thanks to Brennan Johnson for the assist. The Spurs took no time to double the lead as Dejan Kulusevski scored a brilliant goal in the 10th minute.

It seemed Chelsea could not fight back after conceding two goals, but Jadon Sancho started to make it happen. His brilliant shot outside of the box defeated Spurs keeper and found the net in the 17th minute. This first goal was a massive boost for the Blues and made the team very energetic.

Coming from the break, the home team had gone on an all-out attack and earned a massive opportunity when Bissouma fouled Moises Caicedo inside the box, giving a penalty kick to Chelsea. Cole Palmer took that spot kick and converted successfully.

Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez hit in the 73rd minute with a bullet shot, giving Chelsea the lead for the first time in the match. After that, Tottenham Hotspur lost the tempo of the match and gave another penalty kick to Chelsea as Pape Matar Sarr fouled Cole Palmer inside the box. Palmer, once again, took the penalty and completed his brace in the 84th minute.

Chelsea took full control of the match after the fourth goal. But Spurs captain Son Heung-min scored in injury time to make it 4-3 at Stamford Bridge. However, his goal could not avoid the defeat for the Spurs against Chelsea.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is very disappointed with this defeat. He said, “Obviously it’s a painful one, because we started the game really well, not just the goals we scored but the way we were playing. We were really in control of the game and had some really good opportunities apart from the two goals. Then you lose Cristian after the second goal which is just the way our season has gone, nothing has run smoothly and they capitalised before we had settled back down to score.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Maresca did not find any lacking in the first half when his team conceded two goals in ten minutes. Enzo Maresca said,

“There was no problem first half. The plan was working well, we were attacking and controlling the game after conceding two goals. I was very happy.”
