Quick Navigation
Manchester City already have secured the English Premier League this season. But they have two games left to play. Tonight, they will travel to Falmer Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion. Brighton have done a brilliant job this season, securing European football for the very first time in their history. They are now eligible to play either Conference League or Europa League. However, their manager Roberto De Zerbi demands for Europa League, and they have to win tonight to secure the Europa League.
Stats & Facts
Man City have very strong records against Brighton & Hove Albion. They have won 10 of their 11 league meetings over Brighton. The only exception was in 2021 when Brighton won at their home by a 3-2 margin.
However, Man City had 33 goals in their 11 meetings against Brighton, and they scored in every single game they played against Brighton. Anyway, it will be Brighton’s last home game of the season. They had won each of their last home games in the previous two seasons.
Team News
Although Man City secured the league, they have two more finals to play. Therefore, manager Pep Guardiola is expected to bench more first-team players as he did in the previous game. Julian Alvarez, the second top scorer for Man City, is set to start tonight, while Erling Haaland could be on the bench along with Grealish and Kevin de Bruyne. As for Brighton, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez will miss the game. The remaining players are fully fit and ready to play tonight.
Prediction: Brighton 0-2 Man City
Both sides are in good form, but it will be really difficult for Brighton to beat the English Champions. If Haaland doesn’t play tonight, Alvarez is clinical enough to hurt the Seagulls.
Guardiola’s thoughts
City boss Pep Guardiola had a press conference ahead of the match. He said, “It would be better to maintain our tone. I’m not talking about win or lose, I want to see that our tone is there.”
The manager added, “We cannot play like we have won [the Premier League]. Against these two teams, if we aren’t ready we will suffer a lot. And after it would be a problem.”
