As it happened
Newcastle FC welcomed Chelsea at St. James' Park to resume their league journey after the international break. Chelsea arrived off the back of a 4-4 tie with the table topper, Man City, to face the Magpies. At the same time, Newcastle United were more than desperate to get back on the winning track following their surprise defeat against Bournemouth. Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, played his team in a classic 4-3-3 formation. Alexander Isak, coming from an injury, led the attack with Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon. On the other hand, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino set up his team formation with 4-2-3-1. However, the match started with the home side taking an early lead. Striker Alexander Isak put Newcastle United ahead of the game as he found the net in the 13th minute with the help of Lewis Miley. Chelsea, in response, created several chances to find the equalizer. Finally, Raheem Sterling brought Chelsea back in the game with his brilliant skill. In the 23rd minute, Sterling's fantastic free-kick defeated Nick Pope to find the equalizer for Chelsea FC. Anyway, both teams had some important chances but failed to score more goals in the remaining minutes of the first half. Therefore, the first part ended in a 1-1 tie at St. James Park. Coming from the break, the home side continued dominating. They created more pressure on Chelsea and pressed highly. As a result, the Magpies didn't have to wait much to get a goal in the second half. Newcastle United took the lead again when Jamaal Lascelles converted Anthony Gordon's cross into a goal in the 60th minute. Chelsea, however, became a total mess after conceding the second goal. As a result, Newcastle United took that advantage and hit again within a minute. This time, Joelinton made the scoreline 3-1 with a beautiful finish. With the third goal, Newcastle United took full control of the match. They became more dominant when Chelsea turned into a 10-man side as Reece James was sent off in the 73rd minute. Newcastle United 4th goal came just before the full-time whistle. This timke, Anthony Gordon found the net for the Magpies and sealed a dominating victory over the Blues by a 4-1 margin.Related reading
