Match Report
Last night, FC Bayern Munich hosted PSG at Allianz Arena to play the 2nd leg of the Round of 16. Julian Nagelsmann, the manager of Bayern Munich, set the team formation with 4-2-3-1, while PSG boss Galtier played his team in a 3-5-2 formation.
The match started with Bayern Munich dominating the visitors. Bayern Munich kept more possession in the first 15 minutes, but PSG eventually started finding spaces. However, the best chance for PSG came in the 37th minute when Bayern’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer tried to dribble Achraf Hakimi but failed. Vitinha received the ball and took a weak shot which almost found the net. But Matthijs de Ligt made an incredible goalline clearance to keep the scoreline 0-0 in the first half.
Coming back from the break, the home side became more dangerous. They started pushing the visitors highly. In the 53rd minute, The Bavarians could have taken the lead, but Choupo-Moting’s goal was ruled out due to offside. Anyway, Choupo-Moting found the net eight minutes later as he scored in the 61st minute against his former club, PSG.
After that, PSG became desperate to find the equalizer. But they couldn’t set up an organized attack in the remaining minutes. Moreover, Bayern’s defense was rock solid and didn’t concede. Furthermore, the home team doubled their lead in the very last moment as Serge Gnabry scored in the 89th minute with the help of Joao Cancelo. As a result, Bayern Munich won the second leg as well as the first leg and booked their place in the quarterfinals.
Galtier blame injury for the defeat against Bayern
PSG boss Christophe Galtier blame injury for the defeat against Bayern Munich. He said, “The availability of the workforce, we have many important absentees in the first and second leg. We had to change two central defenders before the break. This obviously cost us a lot. Bayern were dominant in the first leg, but we showed a completely different face tonight. It’s not enough, of course.”
