After a dramatic night in the UEFA Champions League, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain have qualified for the Round of 16 from the Group of Death. As a result, AC Milan and Newcastle United ended their journey in the UCL from the group round. However, AC Milan had the same points as Paris Saint Germain, but PSG qualified due to the “Goal Differences.”

Dortmund 1-1 PSG

Borussia Dortmund just needed to avoid a defeat when they welcomed Paris Saint Germain at Signal Iduna Park last night. But Dortmund boss Edin Terzić deployed his best possible XI against the French club. He set up the team formation with 4-2-3-1. Meanwhile, PSG boss Luis Enrique played his team in an attacking 3-4-2-1 formation.

However, both sides were aggressive from the beginning and looking for an early goal. Although they created tons of chances, the two teams failed to score in the first half.

Coming from the break, Paris Saint Germain became more desperate as they had no alternative but to win the match. But it was Borussia Dortmund who scored first. In the 51st minute, Dortmund midfielder Karim Adeyami broke the deadlock as he found the net with the help of Niclas Füllkrug.

However, Paris Saint Germain took only five minutes to find the equalizer. Warren Zaire-Emery gave PSG a lifeline with a cleaver finish in the 56th minute. After that, both teams couldn’t score more in the remaining minutes. Therefore, the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

Newcastle United 1-2 AC Milan

In a must-win game, Newcastle United welcomed AC Milan at St James’ Park. Newcastle United, as the home team, were a very dominating side in the first half, keeping more possession under their control. But they had to wait more than half an hour to find the net.

In the 33rd minute, Newcastle’s winger Joelinton put the Magpies ahead of the game as he found the net with a brilliant finish. AC Milan, however, failed to find the leveler in the first half. As a result, Newcastle United went to the break with a one-goal lead.

But the Rossonerri made a dramatic comeback after the break. They got back into the game when former Chelsea man Christian Pulisic netted the ball in the 59th minute with the help of Olivier Giroud.

This goal massively inspired the Rossonerri, but they couldn’t break Newcastle’s defense despite trying so hard. It seemed the match would end in a 1-1 tie. But Samuel Chukwueze scored a fantastic goal in the dying moment, which secured a victory for AC Milan.

But AC Milan were so unfortunate as they couldn’t go to the Round of 16 despite winning the game. They earned the same 8 points as Paris Saint Germain. But due to the higher goal difference, PSG have booked their place in the Round of 16.
