Quick Navigation
Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is more than just picking 15 players. The game gives managers special tools called chips that can change your season. When used well, they can help you score big points or recover from a bad week.
In the 2025/26 season, there are some exciting changes to chips. Managers now have two of each chip—one for the first half of the season and one for the second. This gives you more flexibility and more chances to plan. In this guide, we will explain each chip, how it works, and the best times to use it.
What Are FPL Chips?
FPL chips are special boosts you can use during the season. They give you an advantage for a specific Gameweek. Chips can help you change your team completely, score extra points, or handle tough fixtures.
For 2025/26, the four main chips are:
- Wildcard
- Free Hit
- Bench Boost
- Triple Captain
One of the major update of this season is there will be no Assistan Manager chip, which was pretty confusing last season.
You get two of each chip in a season:
- One set for Gameweek 1–19
- One set for Gameweek 20–38
Wildcard
The Wildcard is one of the most powerful chips in FPL. It lets you make unlimited free transfers for a Gameweek without losing points.
Once you confirm your Wildcard, the changes are permanent. Your new squad stays for the rest of the season unless you make more transfers later.
Best Time to Use Wildcard
- Early Season (GW3–GW5): To fix mistakes or bring in in‑form players.
- Mid‑Season (GW8–GW12): To adjust for fixture swings and injuries.
- Second Half (GW20+): To prepare for Double Gameweeks and Blank Gameweeks.
Free Hit
The Free Hit chip allows unlimited transfers for one Gameweek only. After the Gameweek ends, your team returns to its original lineup. This chip is perfect when many of your players have no matches due to Blank Gameweeks.
Best Time to Use Free Hit
- During Blank Gameweeks: When teams are missing due to FA Cup or European games.
- To Target a Strong Fixture Week: Load up on players who have easy matches for one week.
Bench Boost
The Bench Boost chip makes all 15 players in your squad count for points in one Gameweek. Normally, only your starting 11 score points, but with Bench Boost, your substitutes’ scores are also added. This chip works best when all your players are likely to start matches.
Best Time to Use Bench Boost
- During Double Gameweeks: When your bench players also have two fixtures.
- After a Wildcard: When you set up your team so even your bench has strong players.
Triple Captain
The Triple Captain chip increases your captain’s points to three times instead of the usual two. If your captain scores 10 points, you will earn 30 points. This chip can make a huge difference if your captain performs well in that Gameweek.
Best Time to Use Triple Captain
- During Double Gameweeks: Your captain plays twice, doubling the chance of big points.
- When a Star Player Has a Weak Opponent: Choose a fixture where they are likely to score or assist.
Chip Strategy for 2025/26
With two sets of chips, planning is even more important this season.
- First Half (GW1–GW19): Use one set of chips to handle early form changes, injuries, and fixture swings.
- Second Half (GW20–GW38): Save your chips for Double Gameweeks, Blank Gameweeks, and title run‑in matches.
- Plan Ahead: Look at the fixture calendar and decide which Gameweeks are best for each chip.
- Don’t Waste Chips on Average Weeks: Save them for when they can give you a big advantage.
- Combine Chips With Fixtures: Use Wildcard before Bench Boost or Triple Captain in Double Gameweeks.
- Watch for International Tournaments: Like AFCON in late December 2025, which can affect player availability.
FPL chips are game‑changers. When used correctly, they can boost your rank and help you catch up with rivals. In the 2025/26 season, you have more flexibility with two of each chip, so smart planning is key. Use your chips wisely, plan around the fixtures, and you will have a strong chance to climb the FPL rankings.
