What a crazy night we have witnessed in European football. A dramatic encounter between FC Bayern Munich and Manchester United saw a goal galore. The match saw a total of seven goals scored at Allianz Arena. However, it was the home side who won the game.
Bayern Munich were always the dominating side last night against Manchester United. But Manchester United showed their fighting spirit until the last. However, The Red Devils suffered from defensive errors that started with Andre Onana’s great miss.
As It Happened
At Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich and Manchester United started the game in the same formation, 4-2-3-1. Man United has several injury cases, so the boss struggled to deploy a strong XI. Facundo Pellistri (21 years) made his full debut for Manchester United last night. The manager also assembled Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford in the front line. Besides, Harry Kane led Bayer’s attack with Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, and Jamal Musiala behind him.
However, Man United seemed very aggressive in the first 20 minutes. The best chance came in just four minutes of the game when Christian Eriksen found Pellistri inside the box. It was a clear chance, but Alphonso Davis made an incredible tackle to clear the ball.
Everything was going smoothly for Man United, but the downfall started when Andre Onana made a dramatic mistake. He let Leroy Sane’s tame shot in the 28th minute to put Bayern 1-0 up in the game. The Bavarians didn’t take much time to double their lead as Serge Gnabry found the net in the 32nd minute.
Manchester United couldn’t break Bayern’s defense in the first half, but they made a decent response in the second half. New signing Rasmus Hojlund gave a lifeline to Man United when he scored his first-ever Champions League goal for Manchester United in the 49th minute.
Unfortunately, the English side conceded again in the game. This time, Bayern Munich earned a controversial penalty kick. Bayern’s new signing Harry Kane made it 3-1 from the spot kick. It seemed the match would end with Bayern’s easy win. But Manchester United showed their fighting mentality. The match became more exciting when Casemiro scored Man United’s second goal of the game in the 88th minute.
But Bayern’s Mathys Tel didn’t let Man United write a comeback story, as he sealed the game by scoring in the additional minute. However, Casemiro scored again for Manchester United in the very last second. Unfortunately, his brace only reduced the deficit as Bayern Munich secured the match by a 4-3 margin.
Andre Onana Apologized
Man United’s new goalkeeper Andre Onana has been very inconsistent since joining the club. His crucial mistake led to Man United’s loss to Bayern Munich. However, Onana apologized to the fans for his silly mistake.
Andre Onana was requested to speak after the game with TNT Sports. He said, “𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭. After my mistake we lost control of the game. I’m the one who let the team down. It’s my fault”.
Onana took the responsibility. “It’s my responsibility, because of me we didn’t win, and I have to learn from it for present and future”
Onana believes he will prove himself for Man United. “I have a lot to prove for sure because to be honest my start in Man United is not so good,” said the goalkeeper.
