Table topper Arsenal have strengthened their position at the top of the table by defeating Everton at Emirates Stadium. Their win over Everton last night has made them five points ahead of Manchester City, who is in second place.

As it happened

At Emirates Stadium, Arsenal hosted Everton FC last night. The Gunners lost crucial four points in their previous four league games. Therefore, they became very desperate to get full points against the Toffees.

Mike Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, deployed his best possible XI against Everton. He set up the team formation with 4-3-3, where Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli led the attack with Leandro Trossard. On the other side, Everton’s boss played his team in a 4-5-1 formation with more depth in midfield.

As the home team, Arsenal always had more possession than Everton. From the very first minute, The Gunners tried to dominate the visitors. However, Everton also had some good chances to score but failed.

It took 40 minutes for the home team to score the first goal. Bukayo Saka, one of the most in-form players in the world right now, scored that goal for the Gunners with Zinchenko’s assist. Scoring the first goal, Arsenal got their momentum and created more pressure on the visitors. As a result, the home team doubled their lead within five minutes as Gabriel Martinelli found the net in the injury time of the first half. Initially, the goal was ruled out due to offside, but the goal was given after the VAR check.

Returning from the break, The Toffees tried hard to score. But Arsenal defended very well in the remaining minutes. Moreover, The Gunners got their third goal in the 71st minute. This time, captain Martin Odegaard scored that goal to secure a 3-0 victory for the Gunners.

Arteta’s Reaction

Arsenal boss Mike Arteta is very pleased with the victory. He said, “I’m really happy. It was a game that we had in hand against an opponent that we knew was going to make life really difficult for us, and we expected that at Goodison. We started the game with some frustration and not really understanding what we had to do, allowing them to run in certain transitions, but after 25 minutes, I think we start to get much better and the timing of the two goals was key.”
