Manchester City have been excellent in the English Premier League. They lifted the league title five of the last six seasons in the EPL. Moreover, manager Pep Guardiola has made Man City a giant in England. Over the past three seasons, Man City gave no chance to others and secured all three league titles.
The 2022-2023 campaign has become the best season for Man City in their history. Under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City have won the UEFA Champions League for the very first time. In addition, the Citizens also have won the treble this season, becoming the first team in England after Manchester United to win the treble.
Despite all their success, can anyone challenge Man City for the league title next season? Well, it is really difficult to predict so early though the season has not started yet. But we pick three potential opponents who can challenge Man City for the league title.
Liverpool
You may be surprised to see Liverpool on the list. Yes, they had a very tough session. Liverpool, however, were the closest rivals to Man City in the previous few seasons under Jurgen Klopp. The team is now in the process of rebuilding. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mo Salah were the deadliest attacking trio in the world. But they are no more at the club.
Sadio Mane left the club in 2022, while Roberto Firmino bid farewell this season. However, Mohammad Salah remains at the club. Jurgen Klopp is trying to build up another trio with Salah, Luiz Diaz, and Cody Gakpo. Luis Diaz has been amazing in his first season, but an injury prevented him last season.
Liverpool are also trying to sign new players in this summer transfer window. They already have completed the signing of Argentine world cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton. If their players don’t get injured, Liverpool will be one of the title contenders next season.
Manchester United
Manchester United have done very well in the first season under Erik Ten Hag. They have won a silverware after a long five years, Carabao Cup. Additionally, the Red Devils are back in the UCL after finishing third in the league.
But Manchester United still need more quality players to compete with Man City. Ten Hag’s top priority is to sign a genuine number nine. They are monitoring the situation of Harry Kane and Victory Osimhen. Apart from the strikers, Manchester United are also working for the midfield and defense. Mason Mount is very close to joining Man United. Man United are still negotiating with Chelsea FC for Mount after getting rejected two times.
Arsenal
Arsenal had a brilliant season and could have won the league. They stayed on the top of the table for the longest time, yet failed to secure the title. They lost the rhythm and tempo at the very last moment, which cost them the title.
However, Mike Arteta has built a very young team that showed their passion for the team. Arsenal are also in the race for signing Declan Rise from West Ham United. Although their first bid of 90m Euros was rejected, they are still in the race.
