Aston Villa have kept their hope alive for the Champions League football following their thrilling comeback against Liverpool last night. The Villans played their final home game of the season last night and needed a win to secure the top four. But Liverpool made it very difficult for Aston Villa as they were winning at Villa Park. However, Jhon Durran changed the entire scenario when he came off the bench in the 80th minute. He scored a brace between 85 to 90 minutes to rescue Aston Villa. Relying on his brace, Aston Villa tied the match against Liverpool and kept their hope alive for the Champions League.

Match Report

Aston Villa needed a dynamic start following their exit from the Conference League. But they had a great shock at the beginning of the match last night. Emiliano Martinez, who returned from injury, made a great mistake by putting the ball into his own net in just two minutes of the game.

However, the home side showed a great hunger for goals and didn’t waste much time to find the equalizer. In the 12th minute, Aston Villa leveled with Liverpool when Youri Tielemans found the back of the net with a bullet shot outside from the box.

But Liverpool took control of the match with a goal from Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman tapped in from Gomez’s cross in the 23rd minute. Additionally, Liverpool made the scoreline 3-1 when Amorin Quanshah found the back of the net with a brilliant header at the beginning of the second half. It seemed Liverpool would easily win this match, but the drama was yet to come.

Unai Emery deployed Jhon Durran in the final ten minutes, and he changed the entire momentum. With the difference of three minutes, Durran scored twice to rescue Aston Villa. In the end, Aston Villa got a crucial point after a thrilling draw against Liverpool. Now the Villans need to beat Crystal Palace in the last match of the season to secure their place in the UEFA Champions League.

“We are very proud of the season. It is not enough at the moment to get fourth. We are going to prepare for the match on Sunday against Crystal Palace. Even after we scored the two goals we had chances. We are celebrating the season here with our supporters in Villa Park,” said Villa coach Unai Emery to SkySports.

The manager also appreciates Jhon Durran for his fantastic performance. He said, “Jhon Duran is a special player. We have to try to help him. He is a good guy and he needs a team behind him. He is getting our demands better. He was very clinical and today was important for him.”
