Manchester United are finally back on the winning track as they defeated Chelsea in a high-voltage game today. This win gives Ruben Amorim a big relief since he has been under tremendous pressure due to the poor performance in recent matches. But Manchester United showed great attitude today against Chelsea and secured a 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

Match Report

The match started with Manchester United dominating the Blues. The visitors had a massive blow when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off due to a foul, and Chelsea became a 10-man team. Manchester United took this advantage and broke the deadlock as captain Bruno Fernandes scored a clever goal, which was his 100th goal for Manchester United. Before half-time, Casemiro doubled the lead with a brilliant header.

However, the Brazilian midfielder was also sent off in the injury time of the first half. As a result, Man United also became a 10-man team at Old Trafford. Chelsea tried to be back in the game in the second half following Casemiro’s red card. They had more possession in the second half than Man United and earned a goal in the dying moments. In the 80th minute, Chelsea got their first goal as Trevoh Chalobah found the back of the net with a header. Chelsea, at that time, were really close to level the scoreline, but Man United maintained a solid defense in the remaining minutes and did not concede more. In the end, the Red Devils secured a very crucial three points against Chelsea and jumped into 10th place in the league table.

With this defeat, Chelsea are winless in each of their previous 13 league games against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, manager Ruben Amorim can now at least sleep well since this win releases some pressure from him. He also appreciated the way his team started the game. Amorim said, “We started the game really well, really aggressive. We were so aggressive in the second balls. We had the sending off with Casemiro, we like to complicate our game always but it was a good day! I felt the urgency, of course the sending off helped us. We had to be more clinical to finish the game off sooner.”

On the other hand, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca believes his team could do well when Casemiro was sent off. “For sure we could have started the game better, then the [Casemiro] red card gave us the chance to come back in the game. We had two-three moments inside the box [in the second-half], but all the game changed after the red card, all the planning and everything, it doesn’t exist anymore,” stated Enzo Maresca.
