Igor Tudor’s short and difficult time as the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur has come to an end. After only 44 days in charge, the club announced on Sunday that Tudor would leave by “mutual agreement.”  The club’s statement reads, “We can confirm that it has been mutually agreed for Head Coach Igor Tudor to leave the Club with immediate effect. Tomislav Rogic and Riccardo Ragnacci have also left their respective roles of Goalkeeping Coach and Physical Coach.” His departure comes at a time of high stress for the North London club, as they sit dangerously close to the bottom of the Premier League table.

A Difficult Start

Tudor was hired on February 14, 2026, to replace Thomas Frank. The club hoped he would be a “firefighter”—someone who could quickly fix a struggling team. Tudor had a reputation for making an instant impact at other clubs like Marseille and Lazio, but things did not go as planned at Tottenham.

His very first game was a North London Derby against Arsenal. Unfortunately for Spurs fans, the team lost 4-1 at home. After the match, Tudor called Arsenal “probably the best team in the world.” While he might have been right, his comments did not help him win over the fans, who were already upset by the heavy defeat.

Tudor’s stats during his seven games in charge were some of the worst in the club’s long history. Out of five Premier League matches, he managed to get only one point. That point came from a 1-1 draw against Liverpool. The other four league games were all losses.

In the Champions League, things were just as tough. Tottenham played Atlético Madrid in the Round of 16. The first leg was a disaster, with Spurs losing 5-2. During that game, Tudor made a controversial decision to substitute 23-year-old goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky after only 17 minutes. Kinsky had made two mistakes that led to goals, but many people felt Tudor’s decision to pull him off so early was too harsh. Although Tottenham won the second leg 3-2, they were still knocked out of the competition with a total score of 7-5.

The final straw for the club board was a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on March 22. Losing at home to a team also fighting to stay in the league was seen as unacceptable. This result left Tottenham in 17th place, just one point above the relegation zone with only seven games left to play.

While the results on the field were poor, Tudor was also dealing with a very difficult personal situation. Shortly after the loss to Nottingham Forest, he learned that his father, Mario, had passed away.

In their official statement, Tottenham acknowledged this, saying: “We also acknowledge the bereavement that Igor has recently suffered and send our support to him and his family at this difficult time.” It is widely believed that this personal tragedy made it even harder for Tudor to continue in such a high-pressure job.

What Happens Now?

For now, the team is being led by assistant coach Bruno Saltor. He will take charge of training while the club looks for a new permanent manager.

The fans are nervous. Tottenham has not been relegated from the top flight in nearly 50 years, and they are now in a real fight to survive. The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust released a statement calling this a “season of bad calls” and urged the club to pick a new leader who truly understands the team’s values.

There are already rumors about who will take over. Roberto De Zerbi is a favorite among fans, but he may want to wait until the summer to start a new job. Another name being mentioned is Sean Dyche, who is known for helping teams avoid relegation.

Tottenham’s next game is a massive away match against Sunderland on April 12. Whoever takes the job will have very little time to save the season.
