Finally, Argentina’s 14-game winning streak has come to an end as Uruguay defeated the World Champions today at La Bombonera. Since winning the World Cup in Qatar, Argentina haven’t conceded a single goal before today’s game. But Uruguay netted two goals today to beat the Albiceleste at their home ground.

At the same time, Brazil faced off against Colombia away from home. Despite having an early goal, the Selecao lost another match. Liverpool striker Luis Diaz scored a brace in the second half to secure a win over Brazil. It is Brazil’s second consecutive defeat in the World Cup Qualifiers, which moved them down to 5th place in the point table.

Uruguay Ended Argentina’s Winning Run

Uruguay is in the process of rebuilding under Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa, the former manager of Argentina National Football Team. Having defeated Brazil in their previous game, Uruguay beat the World Champions today.

Uruguay were very dominant in the game against the Albiceleste. Argentina, on the other hand, were not in their best form today at their home ground. They tried to play aggressive football from the beginning, but Uruguay’s defense was rock solid. As a result, Leo Messi’s team couldn’t break the defense to score a goal.

Meanwhile, Uruguay were more focused on counter-attack. They were a real threat to the Argentine defenders whenever they went for an attack. Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo broke the deadlock just before the half-time break as he scored a stunning goal in the 41st minute.

Argentina, however, changed their game plan in the second half and played better football. They also had some crucial chances, but luck was not in their favor. Argentina could have leveled the scoreline if Messi’s free-kick didn’t hit the post.

Argentina were very desperate in the final ten minutes and went for an all-out attack. But Uruguay took that advantage and doubled their lead from a counter-attack. Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez scored the 2nd goal of the match in the 87th minute and secured a 2-0 victory against the World Champions.

As a result, Argentina tasted a defeat after a long 14 games. This is only the sixth defeat under Lionel Scaloni since he took charge of the team five years ago.

Being world champions does not make us invincible – Scaloni

Argentina’s boss Lionel Scaloni doesn’t think Argentina deserves the win in today’s game. He said, “The truth is that it was a game where we were never comfortable. They deserved the victory, without a doubt. We never found the way, that is the reality. We tried in the second half to correct it with some changes but well, it seems that it was not the day But I repeat, it is their credit for how they played.”

“We are not unbeatable, I said it and I will continue to say it. The player feels backed by the support of the people, I hope it will always be like that,” said the manager.
