Defending champions Liverpool are back in action in the Carabao Cup when they visit London tonight to play the first leg of the semifinal against Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool have been flying this season under Arne Slot, the successor of Jurgen Klopp. They are now the table topper in the English Premier League, six points ahead of Arsenal with one game in hand.

However, Liverpool had a 2-2 draw in their last game against Manchester United. Their performance against Man United raises a lot of questions about the commitment of some players. Particularly, some players have entered the final year of their contracts, and critics believe it could affect their performance.

But manager Arne Slot completely denied this obligation and said, “I talk to my players so if there is anything that worries them, then they share this with me. That has not happened until now.”

“If we drop points when the team has injuries, people will say, ‘That’s because you have injuries. Mo misses the penalty against [Real] Madrid, he is distracted by his contract situation; if Trent has not his best performance, he is distracted by the contract situation. But if they play really well, nobody tells me that’s because they have a contract situation,” said the Liverpool manager.

However, Liverpool had a dominating win over the Spurs just before Christmas. At the Spurs Stadium, Liverpool humiliated the home team and secured a thrilling 6-3 win against the Spurs.

Since losing to Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur lost the rhythm as well and failed to win any of their following three games while suffering two defeats. Last week, they lost to Newcastle United despite having an early lead. Dominik Solanke scored the opening goal for the Spurs in just four minutes of the match. But goals from Anthony Gordon in the 6th minute and Alexander Isak in the 38th secured all three points for the Magpies.

Now Postecoglou’s team is desperate to get back on the winning track when they welcome the English League leader at the Spurs Stadium.

Team News

It’s been a very difficult time for the Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou. Almost all of his defenders are out of the squad ahead of tonight’s game against Liverpool. Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies are the long-term absentees for the Spurs, while Destiny Udogie picked up a hamstring injury last week and is unavailable. Additionally, Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray are uncertain due to their illness.

As for Liverpool, midfielder Dominik Szloboszlai is a major doubt due to his illness. Apart from him, Goe Gomez is guaranteed to miss as he has a hamstring injury. Yet Arne Slot is likely to rotate his squad for tonight’s game.

Possible Lineup for Tottenham:

Kinsky; Pedro Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Bentancur, Kulusevski; Johnson, Solanke, Son

Possible Lineup for Liverpool:

Kelleher; Bradley, Quansah, Konate, Tsimikas; Morton, Endo, Szoboszlai; Elliott, Jota, Nunez

Prediction: Tottenham 1-3 Liverpool

The last game between Liverpool and Tottenham saw a 9-goal thriller in the Premier League. We are expecting a similar kind of high-scoring match tonight at the Spurs Stadium. Since a ton of players are missing for Tottenham Hotspur, it should not be a difficult game for Liverpool even without their regular starter.
