The UEFA Euro 2024 is about to begin. Germany is all set to host the biggest football show in Europe. There are 24 teams in this competition, divided into six groups. The top two teams will automatically qualify from six groups, and the four best third-placed teams across all groups will also join them in the Round of 16
Each group is very difficult and today we will discuss about all six groups in brief.
Group A
Germany, Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland will fight in Group A. Germany is the clear favorite in this group, having four World Cups and three European Championships. But their recent performance in recent major tournaments has been disappointing.
Germany was knocked out from the group stage in two consecutive World Cups (2018 and 2022). They also ended their journey in Euro 2020 from round of 16.
Scotland is also a strong candidate in this group. They have improved a lot in recent years, qualifying for the Euro 2020 for the first time since 1998.
Meanwhile, Hungary and Switzerland also have a balanced squad respectively. Switzerland have a very good defense, which can cause problems for others in Group A.
Group B
Group B is considered the Group of Death. Spain, Croatia, Italy, and Albania will compete in this group, making it hard to qualify for the round of 16. Spain have a solid squad mixed with young and experienced players. They reached the semifinals of Euro 2020 and became the runner-up in the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
Croatia, on the other hand, constantly performing well in major tournaments. They played in the World Cup final in 2018, they were also in the semifinal of the 2022 World Cup.
Italy have a great history, but they failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in consecutive two events (2018 and 2022). However, they won the Euro in 2020 and will look forward to doing well this term. Meanwhile, Albania is likely to be eliminated from the group stage.
Group C
Group C contains Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, and England. England are the favorite with their strong squad, while Denmark also showed their quality in Euro 2020 as they reached the semifinal.
Slovenia and Serbia are not consistent in major tournaments, making it easy for England and Denmark.
Group D
Group D is expected to be a difficult one as Poland, Netherlands, Austria, and France will fight here. France has been brilliant in recent years, reaching the World Cup finals in successive two events. They won their 2nd FIFA World Cup in 2018 but lost to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final.
Netherlands and Poland also have a very strong squad. Netherlands have been brilliant in major tournaments and they are a big threat to others, while Robert Lewandowski will lead Poland throughout the tournament.
If anything miracle does not happen, Austria will likely end their journey in the Euro 2024 from the group round.
Group E
Group E has Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine. Belgium are the favorite in this group, having Kevin De Bruyne and Lukaku. Belgium became the third in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and reached the quarterfinals of Euro 2020.
Slovakia and Romania can be the underdogs in this group and can make a great upset. But we put Ukraine ahead of those two dark horses.
Group F
Turkey, Georgia, Portugal, and the Czech Republic will fight in Group F. It is comparatively an easy group among others. Portugal is the obvious favorite. They are one of the title contenders this time in Euro 2024.
The Czech Republic is likely to finish 2nd to qualify for the round of 16, where we expect Turkey and Georgia to end their journey from the group round.
