The last El Clasico of the season is ready to take place tonight when league leader Real Madrid welcome Barcelona at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu. It is a must-win match for Barcelona to stay alive in the title race. The Catalan clubs are in 2nd with eight points behind Real Madrid. They can go closer to the Los Blancos if they win tonight’s El Clasico at Santiago Bernabeu. Meanwhile, it is also a great chance for Real Madrid to extend their lead at the top of the table. A win over Barcelona would get them closer to the league title.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona were in Champions League action during the weekend. Real Madrid survived as they defeated Manchester City on penalties to secure their place in the semifinal. But Barcelona were not lucky to go through. Despite winning the first leg, they failed to qualify for the semifinal as Paris Saint Germain smashed them in the second leg to reach the next round.
However, FC Barcelona have been struggling against Real Madrid this season. They have not won any of their El Clasico this season yet. Additionally, Real Madrid have won three of their last five El Clasicos, including their most recent 4-1 win against Barcelona in the Super Copa.
Since Barcelona are out of all competitions, only La Liga is their only chance to get a trophy this season. However, Barca boss Xavi Hernandez is confident to win tonight’s El Clasico. “We know how to beat Real Madrid. We know them and we have analyzed the mistakes we made the last time we faced each other,” Xavi said in the press conference.
