Sevilla Humiliated FC Barcelona in La Liga!

Defending champions FC Barcelona have been humiliated heavily by underdog Sevilla today at Ramon Sanchez. Sevilla destroyed the Catalan side by a 4-1 margin, which also ended Barcelona’s unbeaten streak of 19 games against Sevilla. With this defeat, Barcelona missed the chance to take the lead at the top of the table and currently stand in 2nd, two points behind Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Sevilla jumped to 5th with only two points behind the top four.

As It Happened

The home team was very sharp when attempting to score, while FC Barcelona struggled in defense. Sevilla created some crucial chances in the first half, but the moment came when defender Araujo fouled Romero inside the box, which earned a penalty kick for Sevilla. Former Barca player Alexis Sanchez stepped forward to take the spot kick and made no mistake to give Sevilla an early lead in the 13th minute.

Barcelona, then, went on an all-out attack, but Sevilla took advantage of that. Sevilla broke Barcelona’s high line and doubled the lead before the break. It was Isaack Romero who scored in the 36th minute with the help of Vargas to make the scoreline 2-0. But Barcelona got back into the game when Marcus Rashford found the back of the net in the injury time of the first half and made it 2-1 at the break.

The second half saw a desperate Barcelona looking for an equalizer, but Sevilla also displayed a rock-solid defense in the remaining minutes. Moreover, the home side killed the match in the dying minutes when Angel Carmona scored the third goal for Sevilla in the 90th minute! Striker Akor Adams hammered the last nail to Barcelona’s coffin by scoring a brilliant goal in the 90+6th minute and secured a thrilling 4-1 victory for Sevilla!

“We have to accept this defeat and look at the positive side,” Barca boss Hansi Flick stated after the defeat. The manager added, “They played very aggressively one-on-one and we couldn’t find the solution. The second half was better, but Sevilla scored more goals … After this defeat it’s important that we stick together. We are a good team, and when we return from the international break, we’ll fight for every title.”
