Quick Navigation
One of the greatest players to ever play in the English Premier League is moving on. Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian superstar who has led Liverpool’s attack for nearly a decade, has officially announced he will leave the club at the end of the current 2025–26 season.
The news came as a shock to many fans on Tuesday, even though there has been talk about his future for months. In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Salah told fans that it was time for a new chapter in his life. He thanked the supporters for their love and said that Liverpool would always stay in his heart.
Why is He Leaving?
Salah’s current contract was supposed to last until 2027, but he and the club have agreed to end it a year early. Several things led to this big decision. First, this season has been a bit of a struggle for the star. While he is still a great player, he hasn’t scored as many goals as he usually does. So far this season, he has scored 10 goals in 34 games. For a player who often scores 20 or 30 goals a year, this was a sign that things were changing.
There have also been reports of tension behind the scenes. Salah and the manager, Arne Slot, have not always seen eye to eye. Earlier in the season, Salah was left out of the starting lineup for a few important games. After one match, he even told the media he felt he wasn’t being treated fairly. When a star player and a manager don’t get along, it often leads to a transfer.
Additionally, Liverpool has a rising young star named Rio Ngumoha. Many people believe it is time for the club to focus on younger players to build a team for the future.
Where Will He Go Next?
The biggest question now is where Salah will play next season. There are three main options being discussed by experts:
- Saudi Arabia: This is the most likely choice. Clubs in Saudi Arabia have been trying to sign Salah for a long time. They are willing to pay him a huge amount of money to be the face of their league.
- The United States: Some reports say Salah is interested in moving to Major League Soccer (MLS). With the 2026 World Cup happening in North America, playing in the U.S. would be a massive move for his brand.
- Top European Clubs: Teams like Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in France or Barcelona in Spain might want him because he will likely be available for free.
A Legendary Legacy
Even though he is leaving, Salah’s legacy at Liverpool is safe. He joined the club in 2017 and helped them win almost everything possible. During his nine years at Anfield, he won the Premier League twice and the Champions League once. He also won the FA Cup and the League Cup.
With over 250 goals, he is the third-highest scorer in the history of the club. He broke many records and became a hero to millions of people, especially in Egypt and across the Middle East. Fans will always remember his incredible speed, his amazing left foot, and the way he could score goals out of nowhere.
