The summer transfer window has already started but has not gotten busy due to the two ongoing major tournaments, the UEFA Euro and Copa America. But clubs have already begun negotiating with others.

English club Manchester United had a disaster in the previous season, ending the campaign in 8th. Manager Erik Ten Hag was in danger, but the FA Cup title saved his job at Manchester United.

After a few weeks of review, Man United decided to back Erik Ten Hag, and consequently, Ten Hag signed a new contract until 2026. Manchester United, however, already started the mission to sign new players. Here, we will discuss the potential signings of Man United.

Matthijs de Ligt

The first season under Erik Ten Hag was pretty decent for Man United, thanks to the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at the heart of Man United’s defense. But both defenders were injured throughout the season and missed tons of matches. As a result, Harry Maguire and Lindelof became the key center-backs for the Red Devils last season, but injuries hit them also. Ten Hag had no choice but to play with 36-year-old Jonny Evans and forced Casemiro to play in the defense.

Therefore, Ten Hag has made it his priority to sign a top center-back during the summer transfer window. They are now very close to signing Bayern’s Matthijs de Ligt, who Ten Hag coached during his tenure at Ajax.

Since Raphael Varane announced his departure, Man United needed to find his replacement, and Matthijs de Ligt would be a perfect solution for Ten Hag. De Ligt was only 17-year-old when Ajax reached the Europa League final. Moreover, he played in the Champions League final with Ajax when he was only 19. Although De Ligt could not do well at Bayern Munich, there is a belief the 24-year-old will be reborn under his new manager, Erik Ten Hag, at Man United.

Personal terms will not be the issue between Matthijs de Ligt and Man United. However, the Red Devils have to pay around £43m to Bayern Munich to sign the Dutch center-back.

Joshua Zirkzee

Man United’s one of the top targets is to sign another striker in this window. Ten Hag signed Rasmus Hojlund last season, who has scored 15 goals for the Red Devils in 38 games across all competitions. But Ten Hag wants competition in that position and Joshua Zirkzee would be the one to challenge Hojlund.

Joshua Zirkzee was in Bayern Munich’s academy and Parma and Anderlecht before he joined  Bologna FC. He Zirkzee scored 11 goals in Serie A last season with Bologna, but he is in the top ten in creating big chances.

However, the release clause for Joshua Zirkzee is £34m. Negotiation is going on, but personal terms and condition will not be an issue as the player is keen to join Manchester United.
