It’s been a nightmare for Real Madrid as they have been destroyed and humiliated by their arch-rival, Barcelona. The two teams faced off against each other last night in the Supercopa final at a neutral venue, where Barcelona literally ran riot over the Los Blancos. They defeated Real Madrid with a dominating 5-2 margin to lift the first trophy of the year.
Barca boss Hansi Flick is very pleased to win the first trophy of the year. He said, “We are a team. You could see that after the win, but it always shows. We stick together and our aim is to learn from every game. At big clubs, the goal is to win titles. And that’s what we’re working towards. We are very happy and proud but we need to keep showing that we are the best in every game.”
On the other hand, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti shared his thoughts after the game. Real Madrid not only lost the final, but they also lost the top position in the league table as Atletico Madrid secured a win against Osasuna last night to replace Madrid at the top of the table.
“We have to look at the reality, and that is that we did not defend well in the opposition half or with the low block. They scored goals very easily, and we didn’t work well either collectively or individually because we lost a lot of duels. We are sad and disappointed and we’ll take that sadness home with us. That’s football,” Ancelotti explained their defeat to Barcelona.
As It Happened
Real Madrid had a flying start last night against Barcelona as they took an early lead when Kylian Mbappe broke the deadlock in just the 6th minute. But they could not build up after taking the lead, while Barcelona had gone wild to return the goal.
It was Barca’s star boy, Lamine Yamal, who found the leveler in the 22nd minute. A few minutes later, Barcelona won a penalty kick as Eduardo Camavinga fouled Gavi inside the box. Robert Lewandowski, however, made no mistake and scored from the spot kick in the 36th minute. The Catalan club made it 3-1 within a few minutes when Raphinha scored a brilliant goal in the 39th minute with the help of Jules Kounde.
Real Madrid, after conceding these goals, became hopeless and failed to react properly, while Barcelona continued showing their dominance all over the pitch. They scored their fourth goal in the injury time of the first half. This time, Alejandro Balde found the net with Raphinha’s help.
Coming from the break, Barcelona did not waste time to score another goal. In just the third minute of the second half, Barcelona found the net as Raphinha completed his brace from Casado’s assist.
The game was already over for Real Madrid, yet Rodrygo scored one to reduce the margin at King Abdullah Sports City. In the end, it made no difference, and Barcelona sealed a dominating win over their arch-rival to lift the trophy of Supercopa.
