After weeks of negotiations, English club Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta FC to sign Rasmus Hojlund. Signing a striker has been a top priority for Manchester United since Day one of the summer transfer window. We have seen lots of rumors about many strikers joining Man United.
English captain Harry Kane, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Denmark international Rasmus Hojlund, and Randal Kolo Muani were on Man United’s wishlist. But the Red Devils made their priority to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund. Finally, they reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign Hojlund.
All You Need to Know About Hojlund Deal
It’s been a crazy deal for Man United. They didn’t contact Atalanta first. Their policy was different as Man United tried to convince the player first. Manchester United contacted Rasmus Hojlund first and convinced him. Man United’s manager Erik Ten Hag played a vital role in this deal. He directly had called Rasmus Hojlund more than three times and explained the project.
As a fan of this club since boyhood, Rasmus Hojlund’s dream club is Manchester United. Therefore, he couldn’t say NO to Ten Hag and was keen to join the Red Devils.
However, Frech club Paris Saint-Germain tried to HIJACK Hojlund from Manchester United. They also had sent a bid to Atalanta FC. But Rasmus Hojlund was very clear: he only wanted Manchester United. That is why PSG left the race to sign the Denmark international.
Man United submitted their first bid of around €50m, but Atalanta rejected it. They wanted €80m for Hojlund. However, Manchester United had another meeting with the Italian club, where they submitted an improved bid than the previous one.
This time, the Red Devils bid was a guaranteed €70m plus €5m add-ons. However, Atalanta will get another €15m as performance-related add-ons. So, the total package is €85m for Rasmus Hojlund.
However, Hojlund agreed to all the personal terms weeks ago. He will sign a five-year contract with an extra one year as an option. Manchester United haven’t officially announced the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund. They will start preparing documents and paper works today to complete the signing. Hojlund is expected to have his medical within 48 hours.
What Will Be Man United’s Formation?
Manchester United have signed three players: Andre Onana, Mason Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund. Andre Onana is definitely the first-choice goalkeeper, while Mason Mount can replace Christian Eriksen in the starting XI. Ten Hag might deploy Mount along with Bruno and Casemiro in the midfield.
However, Man United now have a lot of options in attack. Marcus Rashford is likely to continue as the center forward for the first few games of the new season as Rasmus Hojlund needs time to adjust. But when Rasmus Hojlund will become the regular starter, Rashford will move to the left flank. Anony and Jadon Sancho will fight for their place in the right wing. Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial will have to work hard to get their place in the starting XI.
