It has been widely reported that Karim Benzema will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, yet the player denied all the reports when he received the MARCA Legend award in Madrid. Madrid fans were hoping that Benzema wouldn’t leave this summer transfer window.

However, things have changed within two days. Real Madrid confirmed that Benzema will leave the club. Karim Benzema had a verbal agreement with Real Madrid. He was about to renew his contract until 2024. But it was never a done deal. 

Real Madrid’s Statement

Today, Real Madrid released an official statement regarding Benzema’s departure. They started by saying, “Real Madrid Football Club and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to bring his brilliant and unforgettable time as a player at our club to a close.”

“Real Madrid would like to show our gratitude and affection to a player who is already one of our greatest legends,” the statement continues.

Karim Benzema joined Real Madrid in 2009, at the age of 19. The striker has won every possible trophy at Real Madrid. He has won 25 titles with Real Madrid and has become the most decorated player in the history of Real Madrid along with Marcelo. Real Madrid didn’t forget to mention Benzema’s achievement in their statement. “During the fourteen seasons in which he has represented our badge and our shirt, he has won 25 titles, a record number for any Real Madrid player: 5 European Cups, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 4 Leagues, 3 King’s Cups and 4 Spanish Super Cups,” Real Madrid mentioned.

 

In the end, Real Madrid wish him good luck. “Madridistas and all the fans all over the world alike have enjoyed his magical and unique football, which has made him one of the great icons of our club and one of the great legends of world football. Real Madrid is and always will be his home, and we wish him and all his family all the best in this new stage of his life,” they added.

However, the farewell to Karim Benzema will take place on June 6 at Real Madrid Sports City.

Future of Benzema

Karim Benzema is strongly linked with Saudi club Al Ittihad. He is expected to fly to Saudi Arabia next week. His salary will be 100 million euros net per season.
