The summer transfer window is ongoing, and Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford FC to sign Bryan Mbeumo after several weeks of negotiations. After having one of the worst seasons in Manchester United’s history, the Red Devils are very determined to bounce back under Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese manager has identified the weakness, which is a lack of scoring goals. This is why he wants to sign some proven players who are already familiar with the intensity of the English Premier League.
Manchester United first signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. They then moved for Bryan Mbeumo, but the deal was never easy to secure. Man United sent the first bid of £50m plus £5m add-ons, which was rejected immediately. The Red Devils then improved the bid and sent a bid of £55m plus £7m add-ons, which Brentford also refused.
However, Ruben Amorim has been a great admirer of Bryan Mbeumo and pushed the board to sign this player as early as possible. The board did not disappoint the manager and completed the deal with Brentford with a transfer fee of £71m, including the add-ons. The official announcement is yet to come as Bryan Mbeumo is set for the medical very soon and is expected to travel with the squad for the US tour.
Bryan Mbeumo has been a proven player, who scored 20 goals for Brentford last season – only three players scored more goals than Mbeumo. Now, Bryan Mbeumo is all set to lead the attack with another summer signing, Matheus Cunha, who scored 15 goals last season with Wolverhampton.
What’s Next for Man United?
The target is clear. Man United want players who can score goals consistently. Despite having Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in their front, the Red Devils still want a number 9. They are in talks with several players for this role and are desperate to sign one before the transfer window closes.
Initially, the Red Devils wanted to get Viktor Gykores from Sporting CP. But the player is passionate about playing in the Champions League, which Man United can not offer this season. Meanwhile, he is also heavily linked with Arsenal.
Man United are now exploring the options. Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson are on their wishlist. There are still enough time left in the transfer window, so Man United will make their decision comfortably to sign a new striker.
Apart from the signing, Man United are concerned about offloading players. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Anthony, Marcus Rashford, and Tyrell Malacia are up for sale. They can utilize the cash if they can sell those players early.
