Match Report
After a heavy defeat against Liverpool, Manchester United were desperate to bounce back. Last night, they hosted Real Betis at Old Trafford to play the first leg of the round of 16. Man United manager Erik Ten Hag played exactly the same team as he played against Liverpool. On the other hand, the Real Betis manager set up his team formation with 4-2-3-1.
The match started with Manchester United dominating the visitors at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford, the top scorer for Man United this season, took no time to find the net. He scored in just six minutes, which extended his goal tally to 26. No player has scored more goals than Marcus Rashford after the FIFA World Cup.
However, Man United became slow and a bit lazy after the first goal. As a result, Real Betis created several chances and found the equalizer in the 1st half. In the 32nd minute, Ayoze Perez leveled the scoreline with a stunning goal.
Anyway, Manchester United changed their approach in the 2nd half. The 2nd half was completely electric for the home side. Man United netted three goals in the 2nd half, which started with Antony’s eye-catchy curl. With his trademark curl outside the box, the Brazilian helped Man United take the lead.
Six minutes later, captain Bruno Fernandes found the net with a brilliant header. Although Real Betis tried hard to score more, they failed to find the net. Moreover, Man United got their 4th goal as Wout Weghorst scored a goal in the 82nd minute. As a result, Manchester United won the match by a 4-1 margin and have gone closer to the last 8.
Reaction
Man United’s boss is very pleased with the team’s performance. In the post-match interview, Ten Hag said, “It was a good attitude, from the start. Front foot, we were good on the ball, finding spare men in the midfield. We made good switches, we made good runs in behind and created a lot of chances so yes, we are happy today.”
