Pakistan have always been blessed with world-class pacers year after year. This nation has produced speed stars, such as Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younus, and many more. Apart from them, Mohammad Amir has become the leading pacer of Pakistan since 2015. His pace was something extraordinary, and most of the batters struggled in front of his bowl.
What made Amir’s bowling special was his ability to swing the ball in the air! His yorkers were really difficult to face off. But despite being the leading pacer of Pakistan, Mohammad Amir had to retire from international cricket. In December 2020, Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket, saying that he felt mentally tortured by PCB.
Amir Breaks His Retirement
However, Mohammad Amir is finally coming back to cricket after four years. He himself announced his return to cricket. Amir announced today that he will break his retirement and be available for selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
In his verified Twitter account, Mohammad Amir wrote, “I still dream to play for Pakistan!”
This decision from Mohammad Amir came after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) formed a new selection committee.
“Life brings us to the points where at times, we have to reconsider our decisions. There have been few positive discussions between myself and the PCB where they respectfully made me feel that I was needed and can still play for Pakistan,” Amir added.
“After discussing with family and we’ll wishers, I declare that I am available to be considered for upcoming t20WC. I want do this for my country as it comes before my personal decisions. Donning the green jersey and serving my country has always been, and will continue to be, my greatest aspirations,” Mohammad Amir concluded.
Mohammad Amir’s Career
Mohammad Amir made his debut for Pakistan in 2009 against Sri Lanka. His bowling economy was very impressive in all three formats of cricket, which made him one of the best bowlers in the world in death overs.
Test Cricket:
Mohammad Amir played 36 test matches for Pakistan since his debut in 2009. He picked up 119 wickets in those matches with a brilliant economy of 2.86!
ODI Cricket:
Amir represented Pakistan in 60 ODI matches, where he got 81 wickets with an economy of 4.78. He came to the spotlight with his amazing performance in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, where Pakistan defeated India to lift the trophy. In this final, Mohammad Amir destroyed India’s batting lineup alone. He picked up 3 wickets in six overs, conceding only 16 runs!
T20 Cricket:
Mohammad Amir played 50 T20 matches for Pakistan and picked up 59 wickets. His bowling economy in this format made him one of the best bowlers in the world. In T20 cricket, batters have always been in an aggressive mood, yet Amir managed to keep his economy at 7.02!
