The title race is going wild in the English Premier League as Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal have been fighting for the league title. Last night, Arsenal humiliated Sheffield United at Bramall Lane to get closer to to table topper.
For the last few matches, Arsenal have been very ruthless, and they have been humiliating the opponents in the league. The Gunners netted six goals against Sheffield United to become the first time to score five or more goals in three successive league games away from home. However, Arsenal are now only two points behind Liverpool and one point behind Manchester City.
Match Report
Sheffield United welcomed Arsenal last night at Bramall Lane. But the home team completely surrendered against the Gunners and failed to show their hunger at Bramall Lane. Arsenal, on the other hand, was very aggressive from the beginning and got an early lead.
Arsenal had taken the lead when captain Martin Odegaard broke the deadlock in just five minutes. He found the back of the net with the help of Declan Rice. After the match, Odegaard shared his thoughts on getting an early lead. The skipper said, “When we had the ball, we were in a good mood. We created a lot, scored the goals early on – a nice performance.”
The Gunners doubled their lead within a few minutes. But it was an own-goal from Sheffield defender Jayden Bogle.
The Bramall Lane witnessed another goal within two minutes, which was scored by Arsenal’s winger Gabriel Martinelli. Martinelli made the scoreline 3-0 in just 15 minutes of the match, humiliating the home team.
Moreover, Arsenal literally ran riot over the home side and scored two more goals in the remaining minute of the first half. The fourth goal came from Kai Havertz as he found the net in the 25th minute with an assist from Gabriel Martinelli. A few moments later, Sheffield United conceded the 5th goal when Declan Rice netted with the help of Bukayo Saka.
Coming back from the break, Arsenal slowed down their approach but kept the possession until the last. They gave Sheffield United no chance to score. The home side were able to take only 4 shots in the entire match, but none of those were on target!
Conversely, Arsenal got another goal at the beginning of the first half. This time, defender Ben White beat Sheffield’s keeper with a bullet shot to make the scoreline 6-0. In the end, the Gunners secured all three points at Bramall Lane with their mighty performance.
Arteta on Big Wins
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta shared his thoughts on such a big win. “Obviously, the fact we scored so many goals and not conceding is a great sign, but it’s about winning every game now, and that’s the demands those two clubs have put over the last six or seven years, and that’s the task ahead of us,” Arteta said in the post-match press conference.
Arteta added, “We are trying to improve in every phase of play; they are understanding the chemistry of the players and the desire they have to constantly be better, and improve in every area. If you do that, there are moments that you can be as dominant but it’s not easy that’s for sure.”
