Arsenal have boosted their hope for the league title following their dominating win against Chelsea FC. They just humiliated the Blues at Emirates Stadium last night, securing their biggest-ever win against Chelsea across all competitions.
The London Derby never saw Chelsea conceding five goals in their history, but league leader Arsenal showed no mercy when they welcomed Chelsea last night at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners hit five goals in this match and registered their biggest win over Chelsea, as well as London Derby.
Chelsea’s key man, Cole Palmer, was absent in this match due to illness. He has already scored 20 goals for the Blues this season and is joint-top scorer so far in the league. But Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino was very confident about the match without Palmer and considered Palmer’s absence as an opportunity.
During the pre-match press conference, Mauricio Pochettino said, “It is a good challenge in case Palmer is not available. It’s a good challenge for the teammates. If I am a teammate of Cole Palmer in his position or a similar position, I am going to be motivated to go there tomorrow and show this is Chelsea Football Club, not Cole Palmer Football Club.”
But the match against Arsenal proved how important Palmer is for Chelsea. According to SkySports, Chelsea would have been in the relegation zone without Cole Palmer’s 29-goal contributions this season!
Match Report
The match started with Arsenal taking an early lead against Chelsea. Leandro Trossard put Arsenal ahead when he scored a brilliant goal in just four minutes of the match. Chelsea, however, reacted well and tried to find the equalizer. They had more possession as well, but their finishers had a bad day in this match. Chelsea had some crucial chances, but Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke failed to convert them. Therefore, Arsenal went to the break with a 1-goal lead.
Coming back from the break, Arsenal just humiliated the visitors! They didn’t waste much time to double the lead as Ben White beat Chelsea’s goalkeeper to find the back of the net in the 52nd minute.
The Gunners had to wait only five minutes to see the scoreline 3-0. It was Kai Havertz, the former Chelsea player, who scored the third goal of the match with the help of Odegaard.
Additionally, Havertz completed his brace in the 65th minute as he found the net from Saka’s assist. Ben White hammered the last nail to Chelsea’s coffin with his beautiful finish in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, Chelsea couldn’t score a single goal in the entire match and suffered their biggest defeat against Arsenal.
The Team Gave Up!
Chelsea boss Pochettino said his team gave up in the second half. “We conceded the goal too easy, we made things so easy for Arsenal, started the game losing the game and after that it was really tough. We were talking at half-time, saying it is not possible to start a game like that at this level, but we started in a bad way again in the second half and conceded two goals. Then I think the team gave up and we were not in the game,” said Pochettino in the post-match reaction.
