1st Innings of Bangladesh
Najmul Hossain Shanto has been named the captain of Bangladesh in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan. However, the skipper decided to bat first after winning the toss. Bangladesh picked up 310 runs in their first innings, thanks to the young star Mahmudul Hasan Joy. This young lad fought for his life when his teammates failed to contribute much to the team. Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored the highest 86 runs for Bangladesh in the first innings. Anyway, Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto respectively added 37 runs on the scoreboard, which helped Bangladesh post a total of 310 runs against the Black Caps. Glenn Phillips got four wickets for the Kiwi in the first innings.1st Innings of New Zealand
New Zealand, in response, were able to pick up 317 runs in their first innings, taking a lead of 7 runs. Bangladeshi bowlers did a fantastic job on that innings as they didn’t allow the Kiwi batters to make their innings long. But the only exception was Kane Williamson. The former captain showed his class once again and smashed a much-needed century. He scored the highest 104 runs for New Zealand before being bowled out by Taijul Islam. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips also played a vital role for the Black Caps, scoring 41 and 42 runs. But it was Taijul Islam who stole all the spotlight. The Bangladeshi spinner picked up four wickets alone, which tied up New Zealand by 317 runs.2nd Innings of Bangladesh
On Day 3, the pitch was really difficult for the batters as the bowlers were getting an advantage from the wicket. As a result, Bangladesh had a poor start in their second innings, losing two wickets in just 26 runs. However, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto smartly handled the disaster with the former captain, Mominul Haque. They made a partnership of 90 runs and were looking towards a big score. Mominul Haque was unfortunate not to get a half-century as he lost his wicket after being run out with 40 runs. Anyway, Shanto scored the highest 105 runs in the second innings. Two more half-centuries came in that innings as Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan scored 67 and 50 respectively. In the end, Bangladesh ended their innings with 338 runs, setting up a target of 331 runs for New Zealand.2nd Innings of New Zealand
New Zealand started their second innings in the final session of the Day 4. But they had a nightmare in the second innings as spinner Taijul Islam destroyed their batting lineup. Due to Taijul’s aggression, New Zealand became seven wickets down in the 102 runs. Bangladesh needed only three wickets on Day 5 to win the match, and they didn’t take much time for that. New Zealand added only 50 more runs in the last time, losing all the wickets. Taijul Islam got six wickets alone in the 2nd innings for Bangladesh, forcing New Zealand to end their innings in 181 runs. As a result, Bangladesh secured a historic win over New Zealand by a massive 150 runs at Sylhet International Stadium.Related reading
