Sri Lanka have become one of the biggest rivals for Bangladesh in recent times. Some controversial decisions in the matches between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have made it more exciting in the cricketing world. However, Sri Lanka won the T20 series against Bangladesh, but Bangladesh made a great response in the ODI series and won it today.
As the home team, Bangladesh started the ODI series in style. They comfortably won the first ODI, but Sri Lanka equalized by winning the second match. Therefore, today’s clash was the unofficial final of the series in Chattogram. It was Bangladesh, however, who won it all with their brilliant bowling and batting performances.
Match Report
In the 3rd ODI today, Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and decided to bat first. But they failed to get a good start as Taskin Ahmed picked up Pathum Nissanka in the second over. The Lankans also lost their second wicket within a few overs. Taskin Ahmed, once again, hit the wicket of Abishka Fernando in the 4th over.
After that, skipper Kusal Mendis tried to make a partnership with Samarawickrama. But their partnership couldn’t go far as Mustafizur Rahman picked up Samara to break the partnership.
However, Sri Lanka were struggling after losing three wickets in just 41 runs. They could have ended up their innings earlier, but Janith Liyanage played a fantastic innings to rescue the Lankas. After coming in the lower middle order, Liyanage was very aggressive from the beginning and hit some crucial boundaries.
Additionally, he was unbeaten with his heroic century (101 runs from 102 balls). But the rest of the Sri Lankan batters failed to contribute much, resulting in them becoming all-out in 235 runs. Bangladeshi pacer Taskin Ahmed picked up three wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman and Mehedi Miraz got two wickets each.
Chasing a small target, Bangladesh had a decent start. Opener Anamul Haque and Tanzid Hasan made a partnership of 50 runs in 8.2 overs. However, Anamul lost his wicket after scoring 12 runs, and the following batter also failed to stay long. But opener Tanzid Hasan made another brilliant partnership with Towhid Hridoy, picking up 99 runs on the scoreboard.
But Bangladesh had gone under pressure when Tanzid Hasan lost his wicket to Wanindu Hasaranga after scoring the highest 84 runs for Bangladesh. Anyway, experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim carried the team until the end and remained not out in 37 runs. But spinner Rishad Hossain stole all the spotlight with his aggressive batting in the lower order. He scored a destructive 48 runs only from 18 balls, which secured the victory for Bangladesh with 10 overs in their hands. As a result, Bangladesh won the third ODI by 4 wickets and secured the three-match series against Sri Lanka.
