The title race is at its best in the English Premier League. League leader Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the table following their thrilling 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur. Having a three-goal lead in the first half, Arsenal were under tremendous pressure in the second half since Tottenham returned two goals. But Arsenal survived and secured all three points at the Spurs Stadium.

The title race is now between Arsenal and Manchester City since Liverpool are out of the race following their defeat and draw against Everton and Aston Villa respectively. But Arsenal needs to win every match to stay alive in the title race.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur needed to win today’s match against Arsenal in order to get into the top four. But their top-four hopes are fading away following the defeat at Spurs Stadium.

Match Report

Tottenham welcomed Arsenal at Spurs Stadium today, where Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou set up the team formation with 4-2-3-1. Skipper Son Heung-min led the frontline with James Maddison, Timo Werner, and Kulusevski on his back.

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mike Arteta played his team in a 4-3-3 formation, leaving Kai Havertz in the front along with Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard.

The match started with Arsenal taking an early lead Emile Hojbjerg put the ball into his own net in the 15th minute! The Spurs reacted immediately and could have equalized when Van De Van found the back of the net in the 25th minute. But his goal was disallowed after the VAR check! Moreover, the Spurs conceded the second goal as Bukayo Saka scored two minutes later from Havertz’s assist.

The first half saw a total dominance of Arsenal over the home team, and the Gunners made it 3-0 just before the half time. Kai Havertz, the provider of the second goal, scored the third in the 38th minute with the help of Declan Rice.

Coming back from the break, Tottenham Hotspur played better than the first half. They had more possession, and their counter-attacks were threatening.

In the 64th minute, Tottenham Hotspur got their first goal as defender Christian Romero scored straight from the box. This goal was a massive boost for the home side, creating more pressure on the Gunners.

Tottenham Hotspur were awarded a penalty kick when Declan Rice fouled Davies inside the box. Skipper Son Heung-min stepped up and successfully scored from the spot kick in the 85th minute. It seemed the Spurs could level the scoreline, but Arsenal defended very well for the rest of the match and secured a thrilling 3-2 win at the Spurs Stadium.

Spurs boss Ange Postecglou explained Tottenham’s defeat after the match. He is not happy with his team’s performance and said, “It’s disappointing – we allowed them way too easy access to our goal, it’s not acceptable at this level and we paid the price. We fought back – we had to, there’s no other choice – but it’s still very disappointing.”
