Crystal Palace destroyed and humiliated Manchester United last night at Selhurst Park. The Eagles hit four goals against the Red Devils to secure a dominating 4-0 win, which made Man United’s hope for European football almost over.

All the center-backs except for Jonny Evans were out of the squad against Crystal Palace due to their respective injury. So, Erik Ten Hag pushed Casemiro to play as a CB. Unfortunately, the Brazilian midfielder failed in that position, leading Crystal Palace to score goals.

Moreover, Crystal Palace completed the league double over Man United for the very first time in history with this stunning win last night. Meanwhile, this defeat marked Man United’s 13 losses in the league. Manchester United have never lost as many games as they lost this season since the 1989-1990 campaign.

As It Happened

The match started with Crystal Palace taking an early lead at Selhurst Park. Michael Olise dribbled past Casemiro and found the space to take a shot, which also beat Andre Onana to hit the back of the net in the 12th minute.

Manchester United, literally, couldn’t make enough chances in the first half and failed to break the Eagle’s defense. On the other hand, Crystal Palace doubled the lead when striker Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a stunning goal in the 40th minute.

The visitors, however, could return a goal at the beginning of the second half. But Casemiro’s goal was overturned after the VAR check due to an offside.

But Crystal Palace killed the match within a few minutes as Tyrick Mitchell made it 3-0 with a beautiful finish. Michael Olise, then, hammered the last nail to Man United’s coffin as he completed his brace in the 66th minute to make the scoreline 4-0.

Man United manager Erik Ten Hag said his side deserved this defeat. “As Manchester United, we should perform better. The players who were available should do better. It’s a deserved defeat. The performance wasn’t what we expected. There are always reasons [why we are not good enough]. Everyone can see our backline, there we have huge problems but, at the end of the day, we have to deal with it. We should have done better than we did,” Ten Hag said in the press conference.

“All season, we have huge problems and by now, this is the fourth defeat in this calendar year, so that’s not a lot and every time, we had huge problems and many times, we sort it out. Today, we didn’t,” the manager added.
