Following back-to-back defeats in the English Premier League, Manchester United have returned to the winning track with the match against Everton. The Red Devils welcomed Everton at Old Trafford today and secured a comfortable win by a 2-0 margin. However, both goals came from the penalty, as Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford didn’t make any mistake from the 12 yards.

Manchester United are eight points behind the top four despite their win over Everton. Meanwhile, Everton suffered two defeats in a row in the league, including three defeats in their last five games.

Match Report

Manchester United were desperate to get back on the winning track when they welcomed Everton this evening at Old Trafford. But Man United boss Erik Ten Hag had to deal with several injuries, and since Rasmus Hojlund is out of the squad, he set up the team formation without a genuine striker.

However, the match started with Everton pressing very high. The Toffees were very aggressive from the start and maintained a very defensive highline. Although their aggression caused a problem for Manchester United, it also created some opportunities for the Red Devils to score. “Everton did well and pressed high which gave us lots of chances in behind,” Erik Ten Hag said on BBC Sport after the game.

In the 12th minute, the first opportunity came as Alejandro Garnacho won a spot kick for Manchester United, as James Tarkowski fouled him inside the box. As a result, skipper Bruno Fernandes stepped forward to take the penalty and made no mistake!

Ajelandro Garnacho was on fire today and caused a real threat for the Toffees. He repeatedly broke Everton’s defense and won another penalty kick before half-time.

On Garnacho, Ten Hag said, “He’s progressing very well and we are very pleased with this. His contribution today was huge, his runs, his dribbles.”

However, Bruno didn’t take the second spot-kick as he handled the ball to Marcus Rashford. Anyway, Rashford kept his nerve cool and successfully netted the ball from the 12 yards. As a result, the Red Devils went to the break with a two-goal lead.

Coming from the break, both sides tried to find the net. Comparatively, Manchester United played better football in the second half than in the first half. But no side was able to find the net in the second half, resulting in Manchester United winning the game by a 2-0 margin.

However, Erik Ten Hag is very pleased with the team’s performance. “It was important. We had one bad result against Fulham in this calendar year. We had to put this right and keep the pressure on the teams above us. There are many games to play. Now we are back. We will keep pressure on them and see what happens,” the manager said on BBC Sports.
