Manchester United displayed one of their season’s best performances last night when they welcomed Liverpool at Old Trafford. Both teams faced off against each other last night in the FA Cup quarterfinals, where Manchester United were the ultimate winner after a lot of drama. The match saw seven goals by the two sides, and Amad Diallo’s goal in the dying minutes secured Man United’s place in the semifinal.

Man United welcomed Liverpool at Old Trafford to play the quarterfinal tie in the FA Cup. United boss Erik Ten Hag set up the team formation with 4-2-3-1, where Rasmus Hojlund played at the center of Man United’s attack. Hojlund and Aaron Wan Bissaka made their return with this match after having an injury.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp played his team in a 4-3-3 formation, where Mohammad Salah led Liverpool’s attack along with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
Liverpool have been a brilliant form throughout the season, but Manchester United put them under tremendous pressure last night at Old Trafford from the beginning. The Red Devils took the lead when Scott McTominay found the back of the net in just ten minutes.
After that, both teams created tons of chances, but it was Liverpool who changed the scenario in the last five minutes of the first half. Argentine World Cup winner Mac Allister gave Liverpool a lifeline as he scored a goal in the 44th minute with a stunning shot. Three minutes later, Mo Salah wrote his name on the scoresheet and gave Liverpool the lead.
Coming back from the break, Manchester United heavily pushed for the equalizer but failed repeatedly. In the 70th minute, Ten Hag replaced Rasmus Hojlund with Anthony, and guess what? The Brazilian winger won it all for Man United as he found the equalizer in the 87th minute! Additionally, Manchester United could have killed the game when Marcus Rashford found Liverpool’s goalkeeper one-on-one. Unfortunately, his shot didn’t find the net, resulting in the match going to the extra time.
Liverpool, once again, took the lead first in the extra time as Harvey Elliot scored a brilliant goal in the 105th minute. But Man United showed a great fighting spirit until the end, and Marcus Rashford leveled the scoreline with a beautiful finish in the 112th minute.
It seemed the match would go to the penalties, but Amad Diallo stole the show when he scored a very late goal, which decided the match in the 120th minute.
In the end, Manchester United won the 7-goal thriller and eliminated Liverpool from the FA Cup. The Red Devils will now face off against Coventry in the semifinal of the FA Cup.
Ten Hag On Winning the Match
Erik Ten Hag is very pleased with the team’s performance. “It was, of course, fantastic and the team showed the resilience and determination, to win this game. And we have had so many setbacks, so I’m really proud of the team,” Ten Hag said in the press conference.
Ten Hag also believes this match could be a huge motivation for the Red Devils in building trust. He said, “Every team needs such moments into a season, and we never had that moment. This could be that moment where the team can really get the belief and the energy so that they can do amazing things. And I think when you can beat Liverpool in the way we did and you can beat any opponent. So it’s up to us to prove that point. And I said also on Friday, and today we did.”
