Once again, Manchester United have been eliminated by a Spanish club. Last night, Sevilla FC thrashed the English giant at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to qualify for the semis. They defeated Manchester United by a 3-0 margin, securing the semifinal on a 5-2 aggregate.

The first leg between Manchester United and Sevilla FC was tied at Old Trafford. Therefore, both sides needed victory last night. However, Manchester United weren’t lucky enough as they missed several key players against Sevilla FC the previous night. Rafael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were unavailable due to injury, while Rashford returned to the squad but wasn’t included in the starting XI. Bruno Fernandes was also out of the team because of his suspension.
Man United’s manager Erik Ten Hag set up his team formation with 4-2-3-1, where Sabitzer, Casemiro, and Eriksen played at the center of the midfield. Anthony Martial led the attack with Jadon Sancho and Antony. In the absence of Martinez and Varane, Harry Maguire paired up with Lindelof in the back four.
The match started with Manchester United conceding an early goal. Harry Maguire, who netted the ball into his own net in the first leg, made another error last night. He made a wrong pass, which awarded a goal for Sevilla in the 8th minute. After that, Manchester United were desperately looking for goals but failed to make an organized attack.
Returning from the break, Sevilla FC stunned the Red Devils with a corner kick. Sevilla doubled their lead at the beginning of the second half as Loic Bade found the net in the 47th minute with a brilliant header. The third goal for Sevilla came at the very last moment. Goalkeeper De Gea made a mistake while passing the ball. En-Nesyri took that advantage and completed his brace in the 81st minute, securing a 3-0 victory against Manchester United. As a result, Sevilla FC advanced to the semifinals on a 5-2 aggregate.
Ten Hag talked about the errors
Manchester United conceded two goals because of their error. Manager Tan Hag talked about this after the match. He said, “It’s always about the team performance. Win together, lose together. We deal with the setback and have to deal with that. It is clear when we make these mistakes, it is difficult to win a football game. We have to be better, that is the demand.”
“I think we lost a bit of our coolness in the build-up, they went high pressure, we didn’t really do well with that, I think we made more mistakes than we normally do. I think that the whole team today, we couldn’t catch up on the mistakes that team-mates made. I think every football player makes mistakes in the game, of course, mistakes like this, they punish us straight away on this level, so of course, we had to take that away,” the manager added.
