Quick Navigation
Kylian Mbappe has been the most talked about person in the transfer market over the past few windows. It is no secret that Real Madrid have been trying for years to sign Mbappe, and the player himself wants to join the Los Blancos.
However, with tons of drama and climax, Kylian Mbappe couldn’t join Real Madrid last summer transfer window. But the time has arrived, and the possibility becomes stronger. Kylian Mbappe has informed directly to Nasser Al Khelaifi, the President of Paris Saint Germain, that he will leave the club at the end of the season!
Mbappe to Leave!
We want to take you back to 2020. Mbappe was in his final season with PSG and was heavily linked to Real Madrid that year. Real boss Florentino Perez was so confident to sign Mbappe, but with lots of drama, Kylian Mbappe signed a contract renewal for three more years for Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Real Madrid didn’t give up and kept tempting him. During the last summer transfer window, Mbappe once again informed PSG to leave. He didn’t train with the team and missed the Asia tour for PSG’s pre-season games. At that moment, Nasser Al Khelaifi set a price tag of €300m for Mbappe. Real Madrid played a strategic game and decided not to sign him with this crazy amount. Although Saudi club Al Hilal proposed to pay €300m, Kylian Mbappe refused to join the Saudi club.
In the end, Paris Saint Germain ultimately reached an agreement with him, convincing him to stay. But Kylian Mbappe’s contract expires in June 2024, which will make him a free agent in the coming months. Kylian Mbappe still has a one-year contract extension clause, but he is not likely to activate the option. As part of the deal, Mbappe would get €70 million as the loyalty bonus if he stays one more year. So, if Mbappe doesn’t sign a new contract, he has to sacrifice the loyalty bonus in order to join Real Madrid.
Real Madrid Are Optimistic
Real Madrid are very optimistic about Kylian Mbappe, knowing that Mbappe wants to play for them. However, the Los Blancos haven’t made any contact with PSG yet as they are monitoring the situation.
In 2021, Real Madrid offered a world-record transfer fee of €220m for the French player, which was rejected by Paris Saint Germain. But this time, the Los Blancos choose to keep quiet for a while. As Real Madrid are very confident about Mbappe, they are now playing a very strategic plan. They will not pay as much salary as they wanted to pay in 2021 for Mbappe.
Kylian Mbappe earns €70 million per year at PSG, but his salary would be much lower if he joins Real Madrid. According to reports, Real Madrid would pay Mbappe €25 million after tax. Yet he will be the highest-paid player at Real Madrid.
Backup Plan for PSG
PSG already have backup plans if Mbappe leaves in June. However, PSG boss Luis Enrique refused to talk about Mbappe’s transfer saga in today’s press conference. Enrique said,” I have no information to give you. Until the two parties involved speak publically, I will not say anything. When the parties speak, I will give you my opinion.”
Anyway, PSG will sign at least three players to replace Mbappe. Bernardo Silva, a player from Manchester City, has been appreciated at PSG. The French club has an eye on him and could make a bid in the summer transfer window.
Paris Saint Germain will also likely sign a top striker and a defender in the upcoming summer. Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt is the favorite to join the French club.
The upcoming summer transfer window will be really interesting to see. The deal between Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe hasn’t been finalized yet, as it will take time. Follow us to stay informed about the transfer saga of Kylian Mbappe and many more.
