The drama continues regarding the 15 men’s squad of Bangladesh for the upcoming ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, which will take place in India from October 5. Today was the deadline for every team to submit their final squad for the World Cup. Bangladesh Cricket Board, BCB, took time and announced the final list just now.
BCB Dropped Tamim Iqbal
Bangladesh Cricket Board, BCB, dropped opener Tamim Iqbal for the ODI World Cup due to his fitness issue. There has been a lot of drama happening surrounding Tamim Iqbal. He retired from international cricket back in July. It was a very surprising news for the fans of Bangladesh cricket.
However, former captain Mashrafee Bin Mortaza came forward to solve this issue and brought Tamim back into cricket. After having a meeting with Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal made a U-turn and broke the retirement.
Tamim Iqbal took a break to prepare for the World Cup. He stepped down as the captain and missed the Asia Cup 2023. However, Tamim Iqbal returned to cricket with the series against New Zealand. Everything was going well, but the scenario changed last night.
Last night, Tamim Iqbal informed the board that he is not 100% fit. Therefore, he can’t play all the games in the World Cup. Tamim Iqbal has asked the board to consider his fitness issue if they select him for the final squad.
But captain Shakib Al Hasan and coach Chandika Hathurusingha strongly opposed it as they want every player 100%. Then, BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon called a meeting last night with the captain and the coach regarding this issue. Finally, the Board just announced the final 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup, where Tamim Iqbal hasn’t got a seat.
Bangladesh Squad for World Cup
There has been a rumor that Shakib Al Hasan doesn’t want to lead Bangladesh as the captain in the World Cup. However, the BCB refused to accept his decision, naming Shakib Al Hasan as captain.
Most importantly, Mahmudullah Riyad got a place in the final squad. He was out of the team at least for five months. But the team management didn’t get a replacement for Riyad. They tried with Afif Hossain, Shamim Patwari, and many more. Unfortunately, they all failed to prove themselves. Finally, Mahmudullah Riyad returned to the team with the series against New Zealand and booked a place in the 15-man squad for the upcoming World Cup.
