Bangladesh chased down a massive target of 319 runs to beat the host, Ireland. Ireland have hosted a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. Due to heavy rain, the first game was canceled. The second ODI started last night at County Cricket Ground, where Bangladesh chased 319 runs to take the lead in the series.
Toss: Tamim Iqbal, the ODI captain of Bangladesh, won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Ireland had a poor start but recovered well
Losing the toss, Ireland started their batting innings with Stephan Doheny and Paul Stirling. But both failed to get a good start for the home team. Paul Stirling had gone duck, while Stephan Doheny lost his wicket after scoring 12.
Losing two wickets early, Ireland were under tremendous pressure. But Harry Tector made a fantastic partnership with the skipper, Andrew Balbirnie. They picked up 98 together to handle the initial disaster. Although Balbirnie lost his wicket after scoring 42 runs, Harry Tector didn’t miss the half-century.
Tector kept hitting boundaries and accelerated the run rate. With Goerge Dockrell, Harry Tector made another massive partnership of 115 runs. Harry got his half-century in this match. Before losing the wicket, he scored the highest 140 runs for Ireland. On the other hand, Goerge Dockrell scored an unbeaten 74 off 47, which helped Ireland to end their innings with a massive 319 runs.
Tamim’s poor form continues
Chasing the target, Bangladesh lost their captain Tamim Iqbal in the 3.3th over. Tamim Iqbal has been failing to get runs in his recent games. However, Liton Kumar Das also failed to score more than 21 runs against Ireland.
It was Najmul Hossain Shanto who changed everything. With Shakib Al Hasan, Shanto picked up 61 runs on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Shakib couldn’t stay long on the pitch. He lost his wicket after scoring 26 runs.
After that, Towhid Hridoy took responsibility with Najmul Shanto. The two young lads were leading the team toward the target. They made a brilliant partnership of 131 runs to take control of the match. Although Towhid Hridoy departed after scoring 68 runs, Najmul Shanto kept picking runs. He got his maiden century last night. His 117 from 93 balls secured a thrilling victory for Bangladesh. Relying on their bats, Bangladesh won the match by three wickets with three balls in their hands.
