The T20 series has been a blessing for West Indies Cricket Team. They had a very difficult time both in the Test and ODI formats. But their electric form continues in the shorter version of cricket. After starting the T20 series with a stunning victory, West Indies secured their second win against India.
The second game was like a thriller as both teams had an equal chance to win the match. However, the Caribbeans secured the victory by two wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20 series. Nicholas Pooran showed his aggression last night, scoring a quick 67 runs only from 40 balls. His superb batting display earned him the Player of the Match award in the second game.
Toss: Hardik Pandya, the captain of India, won the toss and decided to bat first.
Batting Innings of India
Winning the toss, India started their batting innings with Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. But the two openers took time to settle down on the crease, taking no risky shots. Yet they failed to build a long partnership. India lost their first wicket in the 3rd over as Shubman Gill departed the crease after scoring only seven runs.
Suryakumar Yadav, the following batter, was very unfortunate in the second game. He couldn’t stay longer on the crease as he returned to the pavilion after being run out in the next over.
However, Tilak Varma made a fantastic partnership with the opener, Ishan Kishan. Together they added 42 runs on the scoreboard to handle the initial disaster.
Caribbean bowler Roman Shephard broke their partnership as he bowled out Ishan Kishan in the 9.3 over. After that, Tilak Varma carried the team, scoring the highest 51 runs from 41 balls.
Captain Hardik Pandya added 24 off 18 in the lower order. But the other Indian batters failed to contribute much. As a result, India ended their innings with 152 runs.
Batting Innings of West Indies
Chasing the target, West Indies had a nightmare. Brandon King and Johnson Charles lost their wickets in the very first over as Hardik Pandya picked up the two batters in the same over.
The loss of two batters didn’t change the approach of Kyle Mayers. He was very aggressive against the Indian bowler, but Mayers couldn’t stay long. He hit two fours and a six before losing the wicket.
It seemed West Indies couldn’t fight back after losing three wickets in 32 runs. But Nicholas Pooran showed his class and started hitting boundaries. With four sixes and six fours, Nicholas Pooran scored the highest 67 runs only from 40 balls.
But the Caribbeans made it difficult for them as they lost three wickets in the 16th over. Roman Shephard, Jason Holder, and Shimran Hetmyer returned to the pavilion in this over. However, Akeal Hossain remained very determined in the crease. He smashed two boundaries and secured a thrilling victory for West Indies. Now, West Indies need only a win from their remaining three games to secure the series.
