The Wednesday night saw a high-voltage match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United. In the seven-goal thriller, Manchester United are the ultimate winner at Molineux Stadium, thanks to Kobbie Mainoo’s late strike.

In the first half, Manchester United led by two goals, and until 75 minutes into the second half, they led by 3-1. But the drama started when Wolverhampton Wanderers scored two more goals in the dying minutes to level the scoreline. However, Kobbie Mainoo stepped forward to save the Red Devils as he found the net in the 97th minute to seal the thrilling victory at Molineux Stadium.

This win moves Manchester United to 7th with 35 points, while Wolverhampton tasted their first defeat after being undefeated in their previous four league matches.

Match Report

At Molineux Stadium, Manchester United didn’t waste time to take the lead. The Red Devils got an early lead with a brilliant counter-attack, and Marcus Rashford, who was absent in the FA Cup due to a disciplinary issue, scored that opening goal in just five minutes with an assist from Rasmus Hojlund.

Manchester United dominated the first half completely, creating tons of chances. Due to their aggressive approach, the Red Devils doubled their lead when Rasmus Hojlund found the net in the 22nd minute. After that, Manchester United could have scored two more goals in the first half, but goals from Hojlund and Casemiro were ruled out due to offside. In the end, Manchester United went to the break with a two-goal lead.

Coming from the break, the home side changed their playing style completely. They became very aggressive in the second half, while Man United’s focus was on defending. The scenario started changing when Casemiro fouled Neto inside the box, resulting in the Wolves getting a spot kick in the 70th minute. However, Pablo Sarabia took that kick and made no mistake.

Anyway, the Red Devils immediately scored another goal when Scott McTominay, coming off the bench in the 73rd minute, found the net in the 75th minute.

The match was under Man United’s control, but Wolverhampton’s never-stopping approach made it difficult for the visitors. Wolves defender Kilman made the scoreline 3-2 when he found the net in the 85th minute. After that, the home side became more dominating and found the equalizer in the injury time. Pedro Neto scored that equalizer as he found the net in the 95th minute with the help of Matheus Cunha. It seemed the match would end in a 3-3 tie, but Man United’s teenage midfielder Kobbie Mainoo scored the most precious goal of the match within two minutes to seal all three points for Man United. In the end, Manchester United won the dramatic match by a 4-3 margin at Molineux Stadium.

Ten Hag on Winning

Erik Ten Hag shared his opinion on winning this thrilling game. He said, “It is massive, the win. But this match has a lot of sides. But let’s take first the positives. I think we played very good and dictated the game for an hour. We should go up 3-0 or 4-0 but we didn’t and then in the end it is quite naïve. The way we conceded goals shouldn’t happen but then we showed resilience. Especially Kobbie Mainoo. It was a great goal.”
