Finally, Manchester United have agreed with Chelsea FC to sign English midfielder Mason Mount. Chelsea has finally accepted Manchester United’s offer to sell their player after weeks of negotiations.
Mount to Man United
From the start of the summer transfer window, Manchester United have been trying to sign Mason Mount. Mount is a Chelsea Academy graduate, making his debut in 2017. However, the English midfielder has entered into the final year of his contract with Chelsea FC. Earlier this month, Mount informed his team that he would like to leave the club and would not renew the contract.
Therefore, Manchester United entered the race to sign Mason Mount. But their first three bids have been rejected by Chelsea. However, the third bid was worth £55m, which Chelsea turned down and sent a counteroffer. Chelsea wanted to meet with Man United in person. That is what exactly happened today.
Manchester United had a meeting today with Chelsea FC regarding the Mount deal. Both parties have reached an agreement to make the deal happen. Manchester United will pay the fixed £55m initially. They will also pay another £5m as add-ons, which depends on Mount’s performance.
However, Mason Mount was keen to join the Red Devils. He agreed on the personal terms a week ago. The English midfielder will sign a five-year contract with a one-year extension for Manchester United. Mason Mount is on vacation now. But he will have his medical this week ahead of joining Manchester United. Mason Mount could make his debut for Man United in the upcoming club friendly with Leeds United.
What will be Mount’s role at Man United?
Manchester United are in the process of rebuilding. Manager Erik Ten Hag has already signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the midfield. Despite this, Scott McTominay and Fred have not been consistent backup options for the Red Devils.
Last season, Manchester United suffered a lot whenever they missed the service of Casemiro. That is why Erik Ten Hag was very determined to get a quality midfielder.
Mason Mount could be a perfect match for Ten Hag. Mount has proved himself at Chelsea FC. He showed his goal-scoring capability as well as chance-creating ability. Moreover, Mount is also good at intercepting the opponent’s striker. Therefore, Mason Mount can play as a CDM or CM at Manchester United. However, the player has experience playing as an attacking midfielder at Chelsea FC.
Anyway, the first signing have been done, but Manchester United will go for other players. Andre Onana is very close to joining the Red Devils. But Inter Milan want £50m for Onana. Andre Onana is very keen to play in the EPL. Personal terms will not be an issue in this deal. It’s up to both clubs. The coming weeks will be crucial for both Man United and Inter Milan.
