Today, Bangladesh started the three-match T20 series against Ireland with a dominating victory.
Toss: Paul Stirling, the captain of Ireland, won the toss and decided to bowl first at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Bangladesh had a blast at their opening
Losing the toss, Bangladesh started their batting innings with Liton Kumar Das and Rony Talukdar. Opener Rony Talukar returned to the team after a long time and proved himself once again. He was devastating against the Irish. With Liton Das, Rony Talukdar thrashed the Irish bowlers since the start of the match.
They made an aggressive partnership of 91 runs for Bangladesh. The two openers were heading toward half-centuries, but Liton Das was not lucky enough to get the half-century. He lost his wicket in the 8th over after scoring 47 runs. However, Liton Das hit three sixes and four fours before leaving the crease.
On the other hand, Rony Talukdar kept hitting boundaries. He tried to build another partnership, but Najmul Shanto failed to stay longer on the pitch. However, Rony Talukdar scored the highest 67 off 38 balls with four boundaries and three over boundaries. Relying on his bat, Bangladesh ended their innings with 207 runs.
Rain delayed the match
The match was delayed due to rain. With the match being shortened to eight overs, Ireland was given 104 runs to score using the DLS method. But Bangladeshi pacer Taskin Ahmed was on fire against the Irish. With his four wickets in two overs, Ireland ended their innings with 81 runs for five wickets. Therefore, Bangladesh secured the victory by 22 runs and have taken the lead.
We didn’t relax till the last over- Taskin
Taskin was on fire today, taking four wickets in two overs. He said, “They needed 104 runs from eight overs in favourable conditions and the ball was coming on to the bat. It was slightly wet out there too. But we didn’t relax till the last over. We stuck to the process. We focused on the execution, whatever the situation demanded.”
