This pre-season has been very thrilling between the top teams. Today, the English giant Liverpool faced off against German champions Bayern Munich at Singapore National Stadium.

It was literally a goal galore as the match witnessed seven goals in this match. Despite taking a two-goal lead in the first half, Liverpool failed to secure the game. Even though it was a friendly game as part of the pre-season tour, Bayern Munich were dead serious today and earned a thrilling victory by a 4-3 margin.

As it happened

At Singapore National Stadium, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp set up his team formation with 4-3-3 to face the German champions. Mo Salah led their attack with Cody Gakpo and Diego Jota. On the other hand, Thomas Tuchel, the new manager of Bayern Munich, played his team with a 4-2-3-1 formation.

The match started with Liverpool taking an early lead. Cody Gakpo put Liverpool ahead at the very beginning of the game with a stunning finish. He scored in just two minutes from a beautiful assist by Diego Jota. Mo Salah could have doubled the lead within a minute as he got a clear chance in the 3rd minute. But Salah could find the net.

However, Bayern Munich also tried hard to find the equalizer. Their biggest chance came in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, Benjamin Pavard’s head hit the bar. Instead of leveling the scoreline, Bayern Munich conceded again. Liverpool doubled their lead in the 28th minute as Van Dijk, who has been named the new captain of Liverpool last week, scored with a powerful header.

It seemed the German side couldn’t fight back. But they proved their critics wrong and showed a very strong mentality in this match. Their comeback started with Serge Gnabry’s brilliant goal in the 33rd minute. The German international found the back of the net with the help of Bayern’s new signing, Kim Min-Jae. Scoring their first goal, Bayern became very aggressive and didn’t take much time to get their second goal. Bayern Munich leveled the scoreline just two minutes before half-time. Leroy Sane scored that goal to keep Bayern’s hope alive.

The second half was very electric as both teams displayed aggressive performances at Singapore National Stadium. But it was Liverpool again to score first. Luis Diaz’s excellent finish put Liverpool ahead of the game once again.

However, Bayern’s strong mentality helped them to score two more goals in the final ten minutes to win the game. In the 80th minute, Bayern equalized once again as Josip Stanišić scored for the Bavarians. Moreover, Bayern got another goal as Frans Krätzig found the net in injury time, which secured the victory for the German club.

Van Dijk’s Thoughts

Liverpool captain Van Dijk believes the team has learned a lot from this thrilling encounter. He said, “So many good things, so many things that we have to improve. But yeah, obviously a good opponent, a very good opponent, and they punish you if you’re not on it for a split-second and that’s what happened today. But overall there were so many good moments, especially with the ball I think we showed a lot of improvement, but there is still work to do and that’s what we are going to do.”
