The race for the top four is heating up. Newcastle United have secured a very crucial victory last night at St. James Park, where they thrashed Brighton and Hove Albion by a 4-1 margin. Newcastle United has moved up to third place with this victory, three points ahead of Manchester United.

Newcastle United hosted Brighton and Hove Albion last night at St. James Park. This clash was equally important for both parties to ensure a place in the UEFA Champions League. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe set up his team formation with 4-3-3, where Wilson led the attack with Isak and Almiron. On the other hand, Brighton’s manager played his team in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Brighton, despite being the away team, had more possession from the start of the game. They tried hard to keep the ball under their control. However, Newcastle United were very ruthless whenever they got the ball. Their front liners seemed very threatening against the Seagulls. Newcastle United didn’t have to wait much to find the net as they took the lead in just 22 minutes. Deniz Undav, the attacker of Brighton, failed to clear the Trippier’s corner and put the ball into his own net. 

After that, The Magpies doubled their lead within the first half. Defender Dan Burn scored that goal in the additional time of the first half. Brighton had struggled in set pieces. They conceded the first two goals from set pieces.

However, Brighton tried hard to respond in the second half and earned a very crucial goal. Deniz Undav, who scored an own goal, gave a lifeline to the Seagulls. He scored in the 51st minute with the help of Billy Gilmour. It seemed Brighton could find the equalizer, but they failed. Moreover, Newcastle United scored two more goals in the very last moment. Callum Wilson scored in the 89th minute, while Bruno Guimaraes made the scoreline 4-1 in injury time. As a result, Newcastle United secured a very crucial victory against the Seagulls and go three points clear of Man United.
