Finally, India have made it! After a long 4-year, India have booked their place in the final of the Asia Cup. Today, India faced off against Sri Lanka in their second game in the Super 4. But their batting performance was so poor as they lost all the wickets in just 213 runs. And guess what?
India defended this tiny target and bowled out Sri Lanka in just 172 runs to secure their place in the Grand Finale of the Asia Cup 2023. However, Sri Lankan young player Dunith Wellalage received the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance both in bat and bowl, even though Sri Lanka lost the match.
Toss: Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, won the toss and opted to bat first.
Batting Innings of India
India showed a strong batting display against Pakistan. But they failed to continue like this today. Although India had a good opening partnership, the other batters couldn’t help much. However, India started their batting innings with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. While Shubman Gill was a bit defensive, Rohit started playing big shots from the beginning. They made a partnership of 80 runs for India.
However, Dunith Wellalage broke their partnership as he picked up Shubman Gill in the 11.1 over. The young Lankan player then started showing his bowling skill, picking up two most crucial wickets of India. He took the wickets of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in his successive two overs.
Rohit Sharma scored a much-needed fifty, while Virat failed to perform as he did against Pakistan. Kohli returned to the pavilion after scoring only three runs. However, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul tried hard to make a good result. But both players lost their wickets after picking 33 and 39 respectively.
Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka had an amazing spell today. Dunith Wellalage got his first five wickets today, while Charith Asalanka got four wickets. Due to their aggression, India became all-out in just 213 runs.
Batting Innings of Sri Lanka
Chasing a tiny target, Sri Lanka had a nightmare indeed. Sri Lanka lost their first three batters in just 25 runs. Like Sri Lankan bowlers, Indian bowlers also had good spells. Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah didn’t allow the Lankan batters to make long partnerships.
However, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage tried hard to build a partnership, but they couldn’t go far.
Kuldeep Yadav picked up four wickets alone, while Jadeja and Bumrah got two wickets each. But Dunith Wellalage remained not out in 42 runs, which earned him the Player of the Match award. Unfortunately, the rest of the Lankan batters couldn’t stay long on the pitch as they lost all their wickets in just 172 runs. Therefore, India won the match by 41 runs and confirmed the final of the Asia Cup 2023.
