India have hosted a three-match ODI series against Australia as part of the preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will take place in India. However, the series started today at Mohali Stadium, where the home side beat the visitors by five wickets thanks to Mohammad Shami for his five wickets haul.

Match Report

Indian Cricket Board has given Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma a rest in this series. So KL Rahul is now captaining the team for this series against Australia. However, KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bowl first in the first match of the series.

Therefore, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner came off to start the batting innings for Australia. But the visitors had a massive blow in the very first over. Pacer Mohammad Shami picked up the wicket of Mitchell Marsh in the first over. However, David Warner played a vital role after losing his partner. He made a fantastic partnership with experienced batter Steve Smith.

The two batters were leading the team towards a big target, making a partnership of 94 runs. But Ravindra Jadeja broke their partnership by taking the wicket of David Warner, who scored 52 off 53 balls. After a while, Mohammad Shami bowled out Steven Smith in the 21.3 over. Smith added 41 runs before leaving the crease.

However, Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green tried hard to carry the team. Together they added 45 runs on the scoreboard. But Labuschagne lost his wicket to Ravichandran Ashwin after scoring 39 runs, while Cameron Green was a bit unlucky as he departed the crease after being run out.

Josh Ings contributed 45 runs, but the remaining batters couldn’t continue. Mohammad Shami was on fire against Australia. He had a wonderful spell today, picking up five wickets alone. Due to his aggression, Australia became all-out in 276 runs.

India had a flying start

Chasing the target, India had a flying start. Two young openers Rituraj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill were ruling the Aussie bowlers. They made a fantastic partnership of 142 runs in the opening partnership. Following their fifties, both were on their way to a century.
