Chelsea, once again, dropped crucial points when they played against Sheffield United last night. Following their dramatic win against Manchester United, Chelsea were very motivated to secure all three points against Sheffield United. They, however, had a good start and could have won the match. But Sheffield found the equalizer as Oli McBurnie scored a late goal, which ended the match in a 2-2 tie at Bramall Lane.

As It Happened

Sheffield United welcomed Chelsea last night at Bramall Lane, where the manager played his team in a 3-5-2 formation. Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino set up the team formation with 4-2-3-1. Nicolas Jackson played in the front with the back of Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, and Noni Madueke.

Chelsea were the clear favorite last night against Sheffield and dominated the home team from the very first minute. As a result, the Blues didn’t waste time to find the net. They took an early lead when Thiago Silva scored a brilliant goal in the 11th minute, converting Gallagher’s corner with a header.

Following the early lead, Chelsea had some crucial chances to extend the lead but failed. Moreover, Sheffield United were desperately looking for chances and shocked the Blues when midfielder Jayden Bogle found the back of the net in the 32nd minute. Consequently, the first half ended in a 1-1 tie as both teams failed to score more in the first 45 minutes.

Sheffield United made it difficult for Chelsea in the second half also. Chelsea struggled to break Sheffield’s defense, but the chance came in after 60 minutes when Cole Palmer set up for Noni Madueke. Noni Madueke didn’t make any mistakes and converted Palmer’s lovely pass into a goal in the 66th minute.

Taking the lead again, Chelsea took control of the match and seemed to be the winner. But the drama was not over there. In the injury time, Sheffield striker Oli McBurie stunned the Blues when he scored an incredible goal in the 90+3 minute! This goal secured a point for Sheffield United, while Chelsea left the Bramall Lane with another disappointment.

Pochettino on Dropping Points

It is another disappointing match for Chelsea and manager Mauricio Pochettino talked about it after the game. Pochettino said, “When you concede in the last few minutes, always we feel very disappointed and frustrated because we should win the game in this moment.”

Pochettino believes his team is still very young and will take time to rebuild. He added, “This is a new team and we are learning. The process always takes time. It’s not a magic thing. It’s a project, a three or five year process to build a team.”
